Alex's eyes opened. Why was he still here, he thought. A disappointment to his friends. His family. He looked over to Dylan and then up to Caleb and Trix.

He stood up, taking a pen from out of his pocket. He started to write. With the smooth ballpoint of his pen he wrote about why he was running. About failure. About forgiveness. About Dylan.

He closed the letter. Knowing this was the time to leave, he grabbed his backpack and walked out of the Outhouse.

*August 3rd, 2093, 12:52am*

Alex walked toward the center of town on Cheshire Road. The chill of the surrounding fog covered him like a blanket. As he passed street light after street light, he regretted every decision he made.

A sudden rush of air made him aware of his surroundings. Alex covered his eyes from the bright blue light shining his way. As the blue-tinted fog cleared, Alex was marveled by a dark silhouette standing amongst the fog.

A slightly tall, brown haired teenage boy about his age was standing at the source. He looked left down the street and then right, locking eyes with Alex. The mysterious figure quickly walked to Alex, looking nervously around him. But that wasn't the only thing walking toward him. A group containing three Order members were pacing to Alex.

"What's a couple of kids like you doing out here in the dead of night?" the middle goon shouted, a smug look on his face. "Some might think you were," he paused,"... plotting something." The all three of the goons laughed at that unfunny joke.

"Yeah," the left goon said, "and only dangerous people could be plotting anything."

The mysterious teenager stepped into the bright light of the street lamp. At a closer look, Alex realised that the stranger had powers, the small, blue tattoo that marked every Invertant's arm giving him away.

Just as the realization hit Alex, so did the Order members. A baton struck Alex in the back of the head and instantaneously knocked him out.

Alex awoke in a dark, gloomy room with bars all around him. He awoke in a jail cell. Alex looked left, then right. He was met with a wall on one side and the mysterious stranger on the other. Alex noticed He was also locked in a similar style jail cell.

"I guess it's time for a bit of an explanation," the stranger said, making himself at home in the dank prison cell, "My name is Ram. I was sent..." He was nervous, like he wasn't supposed to say what he just said. "Umm... I came to help you overcome your problem so you wouldn't get captur..." He trailed off again in though.

Captured?, Alex thought. How did he know that we would be captured? He pushed those thoughts out of his mind, for the time being, to get a better grasp on the situation at hand.

"Okay," Alex said, "Number One: How are we getting out of here?"

"Like this." Another weird flash of bright blue light lit the dark jail cell room. As Alex uncovered his eyes from the light, Ram was standing outside of his assigned cell. "There."

Alex gasped. "What? How?" Alex questioned the very mysterious and now very powerful teenager. As he remembered Ram sported the blue tattoo of the Invertants, Alex realised.

Ram walked over to the jail cell where Alex was currently standing in awe. Ram said "I can get you out of here, but I need you to make a promise."

"Okay. Sure. Whatever it takes to get me out of this terrible place." Alex cringed as he said that.

"Okay. You have to promise me that you will do anything in your power to keep me safe."

"Keep you safe? I can't even keep myself safe."

"Just promise me."

"Okay. Promise"

The two boys locked eyes for a couple of seconds, forming a bond. Then they grabbed each other's hand through the bars, and they vanished from sight.
