"We will see you for the Ceremony of Citizenship."
"Looking forward to it." I said unenthusiastically.I walked away and through the long dark hallway. James was sitting on a bench waiting for me. He wasted his time to wait for me even though there was a chance that I wouldn't come back?
"Hey. What are you still doing here?"
"Oh hey, I was just. Uh, Waiting for you."
"How sweet. How did you know I was coming back?"
"I didn't. I just hoped that you would."I instantly felt like jelly. Such a weird word, but I felt all oozy. I felt wanted, loved, cared for. Did James really care? It was a feeling I've never had before. I loved it. I've never loved anything before, but I think that I actually loved James. Such a weird thing, but I felt something the first time I looked into those eyes. Was it all just a phase? I've never had feeling like this before.
We stare into each others eyes in an awkward silence. He starts laughing and then so do I. I haven't laughed in forever. He makes it feel amazing to laugh. Not even faking my smile this time. I feel like I made the right decision. If I could have this feeling forever, I would take it.
We enter a church hand in hand. We split our ways, he takes a seat and I walk down the aisle, Mr. Dee is waiting for me in the very front of the church. He grabs my hand to help me up the steps. I turn to face the citizens, I will soon be one of them."Everyone! This is our new citizen of the Mirror World!"
"Welcome home Amara!" The crowd says in unison.
Mr. Dee turns to me, "Now, Amara. All you have to do is say the Oath of Citizenship and get the Stamp of Loyalty to show that you are one of us."
"Okay." I was ready to get this over with.
"Repeat after me. I, Amara, give my soul to the hands of the leader of this world. I will become a demon and do the tasks as I am asked."
"I, Amara, give my soul to the hands of the leader of this world. I will become a demon and do the tasks as I'm asked."The words I say are the words everyone has to say to become a demon. It isn't anything special. Do the tasks I'm asked, What does that mean? Will I have to hurt anyone? I just wanted to be a citizen. I was hoping that becoming a demon was a label.
