It had been a week since the pair first entered the Pokemon centre. Their experiences since arriving were nothing like they had ever felt before. The pair were used to being really happy and cheerful together; they had spent the whole week feeling empty. Fennekin's condition really took its toll on the pair as Fennekin struggled to remember anything that had happened the previous day. That affected Riolu as it made him quite upset to be reminded of the memories that had been lost. Nurse joy spent any free time she had trying to work on a solution to Fennekin's problem, but since the cure was so early in development, Riolu knew it would be a long time before Fennekin would return to normal- if it was possible at all.

Even though it had only been a week, Riolu already had a routine he stuck to while Fennekin couldn't remember what exactly it was. She didn't like the idea, but she couldn't help it. She felt so helpless stuck in an endless loop everyday, but even Riolu had come to accept it. It was a sunny day in the conservatory which the two called home. Riolu and Fennekin sat together as they did everyday and Fennekin listened attentively as Riolu told her stories of two Pokemon who travelled the world. He told her of the treacherous journeys the two endured, the Pokemon they encountered and even one story where they rode on the back of a Lapras across an ocean. He told her of the Wailord they saw and how overwhelmingly large it was. Fennekin showed great interest in these stories. Her orange/red eyes were fixed on Riolu as he continued to dazzle her with the great adventures of the pair. When he finished, he looked upset, like he didn't like telling the stories to her. She didn't know why.
"Those sound really interesting. Where did you hear those stories from?"
She asked him.
He looked back- his eyes melancholy.
"I didn't hear them from anywhere. We were the two Pokemon in the stories. They happened to us."
He replied. Fennekin looked confused.
"What do you mean? I don't understand."
"I know you don't. It's okay that you don't. I just wish you did."
Riolu sounded like he was about to cry.
"Don't cry, please. I hate to see you so upset."
She walked across from where she was sitting and lay in his lap. He seemed to cheer up a bit. She looked up at him.
"Why are you so upset all of the time? You always look like somethings bothering you. Why?"
She was looking at him intently, waiting for her to answer her question. He took a deep breath before telling her.
"A week ago, we were just like any other Pokemon. We were laughing, playing, talking, just enjoying ourselves. Then it happened. You got into an accident. Something hit you in the head, travelling so fast I didn't even see what it was. You fell unconscious, and I brought you here. You were okay, but you lost your memory. When you wake up every morning, you have no memory of anything from the day before."
He finished, holding her close. He looked to see her expression, and when he did, he was heartbroken. Fennekin looked absolutely distraught. She had tears in her eyes, running down her face and dripping into the lush green grass under the pair.
"What? Really?"
She asked. She was on the verge of crying. Riolu was as well.
"Your reaction is the same every time. I've told you the same stories every day for the past week, and every time, you react in the same way."
She couldn't hold back her emotions anymore. She burst into tears, burying her head into Riolu's chest. He let himself cry as well, and the two simply let their emotions out.

Shortly after, the sun began to set, Casting a golden glow inside the glass walls of the conservatory. Riolu sat next to Fennekin, as she watched the sun slowly disappear over the horizon.
"Hey, Riolu?"
Fennekin asked.
"Yes, Fennekin?"
He replied.
"You said I forget everything when I wake up in the morning, but there's one thing I never forget."
She told him.
"What's that?"
He asked.
"Whenever I'm with you, I'm happy. You always cheer me up when I feel down, and you make me feel safe. That's why I love you."
He smiled.
"I'm very happy to know that. It means so much to me that you feel that way- it really does."
She snuggled up against him as the sun's rays disappeared and the conservatory was consumed by darkness. The two fell asleep together, and Riolu knew that tomorrow everything would start all over again, but he was happy knowing that she felt comfortable with him. Even though she wouldn't remember anything tomorrow, Hearing that from her made all the difference and allowed him to drift off happily into a deep sleep.
