The Chicken and the Egg

There once was a chicken and an egg. They were in a jungle, and the egg was that of a dinosaur's. It was the chicken's job to return the egg to its rightful owner. Well, technically, it wasn't the chicken's job. The chickens just felt that it was absolutely necessary to do so.

Even though the species of the egg was a carnivore. And the chicken didn't even know where to begin.

But the first thing that the chicken had to do was get the egg out of the jungle. Dinosaurs didn't live in the jungle, so it was kind of surprising to find an egg there. A whole lot of birds and mammals lived there though, and Chicken didn't want anyone or anything finding him with the egg. Not in the jungle, at least.

After a couple of hours of repeatedly almost getting caught, Chicken and the egg were finally out of the jungle. Since he didn't really know who or what to ask, Chicken decided to spy on the dinosaurs.

Chicken found two pterodactyls talking to each other. He didn't hear what they were saying, however, as a T-Rex came stomping in before Chicken could get in position. He had to put his whole body weight against the egg to keep it from crashing into something.

"Have either of you seen my baby? I'm missing an egg!" The two pterodactyls looked at each other, then back at the mother, shaking their heads. "Oh, where could it be?!" She asked to no one in particular as she continued looking.

Despite the risk of getting eaten, Chicken decided to ask the Tyrannosaurus if the egg was hers. "Excuse me," Chicken said, catching her attention. He then carried the egg. It was quite the struggle. "Is this... egg... yours?" Chicken asked, nearly collapsing. In hindsight, he should've just rolled the egg so it would be in front of him.

The dinosaur's eyes went wide. "Oh my God, YES! Thank you, thank you so much!" The T-Rex exclaimed ecstatically, jumping up and down before collecting the egg. Chicken was lucky that he didn't throw up. They both sat on the grass, Chicken out of exhaustion, and the T-Rex to cradle her egg. "I'd give you a hug, but..." She wiggled her fingers, giving notice to her short arms, which were surprisingly doing well at holding the egg.

"That's alright. I'm too tired anyway." Not wanting to hurt himself, Chicken slowly laid down on the grass. He let out a large exhale. The two stayed like this for several minutes, all the other dinosaurs ignoring them.

Finally, Chicken got up, ready to leave the land of the dinosaurs.

"May I ask who I'm thanking?" The dinosaur asked.

"Oh." The chicken couldn't believe he hadn't introduced himself. This wasn't normal of him. Perhaps he just wasn't comfortable in this environment. "I am King Chicken, king of the jungle and all of its inhabitants."

She smiled. "Cool. I'm Queen Tyrannosaurus Rex, and I'm ruler of this land. And the dinosaurs. But you can call me Rachel." She paused. "Is there anything that I can do to repay you?"

Chicken was about to say that there was no need to do anything, and that he was just glad to help. But he stopped. In his haste, he had forgotten that these two kingdoms had some history together. The Jungle and Dinosaur kingdoms had been at war for nearly a decade. Chicken had forgotten what was the cause. It eventually became a tie. And, with the war over, it was said that the royal family had stepped down. There was no other news of the Dinosaur kingdom after that.

So to hear that the Dinosaur kingdom had a new queen (the old one was very snobby), it took Chicken by surprise. He was trying to make sense of all this.

"Hello? Anyone in there? Earth to Chicken, we'd like you back now, please." Chicken shook his head, clearing his thoughts.

"Hmm? Oh, sorry. No, you don't need to repay me. I'm just glad I was able to help." Chicken thought back about the war. It seemed that Rachel was unaware of it, or something similar. Either way, she was very friendly. "However, I would like if we became friends. You seem like an awesome animal."

Rachel got up, carrying the egg. "I'd like that."

And thus was the start of a bond between a chicken and a T-Rex.
