“This is a date!” Marcy whispered excitedly. “I mean, tell me again, how exactly did he say it?!”

“We’ve been going over this about a thousand times,” Selena moaned, which wasn’t exactly true, but she had definitely heard it enough over the last couple of days for her to see where this conversation was going. Her fingers shook as she placed her second earring in, Marcy’s inquisitive yet demanding eyes meeting hers through the reflection. “Oh, give it a rest!”

“I just want to know,” Marcy whined. “He’s not the best looker, but this will be your first date, right?”

“It’s not a date,” Selena snapped, though her mind was beginning to think otherwise. After all, having heard all of Marcy’s scenarios repeatedly, Selena couldn’t help but think through the new ones Marcy presented her with every night. “Besides, he simply said to go to Hogsmeade with him. He never said, ‘Will you go out with me?’ or to dress nicely or anything.”

“Because guys don’t do that unless they are completely or seriously committed,” Marcy explained, smiling softly. “And do you really think that Snape would do that?”

“I suppose not,” Selena replied, frowning slightly. “But, can we please stop with the dramatics? This isn’t a date.”

“Then why are you trying to so hard to look so good – which, by the way, is working?” Marcy asked, smirking.

“I’m just not wearing my Hogwarts robes.”

“No, you’re wearing a beautiful shirt, slimming jeans, and knee-high boots – can you please explain this new phenomenon? You’re going to have him wanting to get in your pants before you even leave the school!”

“Marcy!” Selena gasped, punching her friend lightly on the arm. “That’s not funny. Besides, he’s not like that. Now, if he were Avery… I wouldn’t put that past him. But, who would want to date Avery, anyway?”

“Regardless of what you believe, Selena, Severus is still a boy… he has needs, too,” Marcy explained, smirking as she saw Selena’s expression go blank before turning into faint horror. “Get me?”

“It won’t be like that,” Selena replied, shaking her head defiantly. “I know him better than that.”

“Whatever you say,” Marcy answered, sitting herself down on the vanity, where Selena still prepared herself. “May I say that I think silver really brings out your eyes?”

“Shove it,” Selena muttered, putting on the smallest coat of lip-gloss. “Alright, I’m done. Wish me luck?”

“I’ll wish you more than that,” Marcy winked. “Have fun!”

Selena shot her friend a smirk before walking away, her two-inch heels clicking against the floor as she moved towards the door. Taking her traveling cloak off the coat stand, she waved her friend farewell before walking out, and heading towards the Common Room.

For the most part, the first years and second years remained, lingering in the main Ravenclaw Common Room as the older students left for Hogsmeade. The only other students remaining were several older students, whom Selena assumed remained behind simply because they were bored of the magical village.

Selena left the Common Room, and then walked down towards the main hall. Her heart was pounding ruthlessly within her chest, her thoughts focused on what was to come, and what would be expected of her.

Was this a date? Had there been something she missed, when he was speaking to her? Selena’s mind was a frenzy of thoughts, and so when she stepped into the Entrance Hall, her breath got caught in her throat.
