I look down at the water dragons gathered around the central pond as I stand on one of the ledges of the Oversee Pillar, thanks to the help of a couple Tribe guards who carried me up here. Their various-colored scales sparkle as they move in the light from the crystal-lights, though their eyes are staring up at me in anger, hate, and confusion. I watch uncomfortably as they talk among themselves, and I can almost hear them saying, "Wasn't she the fire dragonette thrown in the dungeon yesterday? Why is she standing directly next to the princess? Has King Golden Sky gone mad?"
As if she could read my mind and sense how I'm feeling, Aqua, who I share a ledge with on the Oversee Pillar, brushes one of her wings against mine. "It'll be okay," she assures quietly. "They don't know about the prophecy yet; I know their thoughts on you will change."
"My fellow water dragons," King Golden Sky begins, his voice echoing in the large cavern and instantly hushing any other talk. "I have gathered you all together today for a very special announcement: a revealing rite of a new prophecy."
The king pauses long enough to allow the dragons to gasp and murmur with shocked delight as they take in his words.
King Golden Sky continues when the talking subsides. "With great respect of Dragonspirit's wisdom, the prophecy shall be revealed."
Wisdom clears his throat and recites, "The end of the war is near. The time for the coming of a dragonette is soon. She will stop all fighting between the Tribes of water, ice, and fire with the almighty powers of wisdom, courage, and strength. This is the prophecy of the flaming ice."
The gathered water dragons erupt in roars of elation and praise to Dragonspirit, already knowing what the prophecy is mainly about. I glance over at a particular group of dragons that was glaring at me just moments ago; they are now all looking up at me with widened eyes and gaping jaws to reveal their pointed fangs, but after awhile they join in the rejoicing with their fellow Tribemates. My ears flatten against the noise due to how loud it is, especially with how it echoes around the vast Central Cave. Looking at Aqua, we exchange smiles and shining eyes.
"There's no turning back from here, huh?" the lilac-scaled princess murmurs.
I shake my head. "I guess not. Promise me you'll be with me every step of the way."
Aqua blinks slowly, affectionately almost. "I already did."
As Wisdom goes on speaking, the cheers calm down to listen to him. "As you all have already heard, yes, this prophecy is about the ending of the war. The dragonette who is said to end the war has finally come, and she is standing beside your princess."
Oh, great.
As Wisdom says that, practically every gaze in the entire base turns onto me. Aqua moves closer to me so that our sides are touching, and I know that she is trying to give me comfort and courage. This is what I'm going to have to deal with now, being looked up to as the savior of an entire race, of three Tribes, of hundreds of dragons. Better get used to it now.
I shove away my self-consciousness, straighten up, and look down at the dragons, even meeting several gazes with my own.
The elder dragon continues his interpretation of the prophecy, and gradually most of the gazes go back to him. "The prophecy of the flaming ice states that she will end the war with the almighty powers of wisdom, courage, and strength. I believe this means that she must go to each of the members of the Dragon Council and have them share their wisdom, courage, or strength with her, meaning that she will have to travel to the Ice and Fire Tribes to meet Courage and Strength."
