It was getting late; Laura could see the sun dipping below the horizon. She sat down on a seat nearby and waited in Charles' office. A few minutes later, she realised that someone had entered the room. He was tall, and he had messy brown hair and kind hazel eyes. He talked to Charles for a few minutes, then he made his way to Laura and sat down on a chair next to hers. As soon as they made eye contact, Laura could see all the pain that he had been through. "Hi Laura, my name is Logan, it's nice to meet you," he smiled, "it's getting dark out there... I'll show you to your room." she nodded. They left the office, and just as he turned to shut the door, Laura noticed the silver dog tag hanging around his neck. It was very peculiar; it looked exactly like the ones Stryker branded her with. "your dog tag..." she whispered; he turned around to face her, and he didn't resist when she pulled it out to get a closer look. "...wolverine." she read. "were you captured by Stryker as well?"
Logan's POV
I was shocked. She was so young, maybe only a teenager at most. She did not deserve to be one of Stryker's twisted experiments. I looked at the innocent little girl, my eyes full of concern and anger, and I realised that inside, she was just as broken and scarred as I was. "I promise, you're safe here in the school." I said, "I will look after you."
*end of Logan's POV*
Laura was sincerely touched by his comment. She hadn't felt this loved in a long time. "thank you," Laura told him, "it means a lot to me." Logan smiled, "well, we can chat tomorrow; it's way past your bedtime!" she nodded, and Logan escorted her all the way to her room. When he had left, Laura found herself staring blankly into nothingness. She felt so lucky to be saved, and she couldn't wait to see the whole school tomorrow.
She quickly brushed her teeth and drifted into a restless sleep.
In the middle of the night, Laura was awoken by the sound of her window shattering into pieces. Quickly sitting up, she subconsciously extended her claws under the bed sheets. She watched frightfully, as a whole team of soldiers spread around the room, aiming their machine guns at Laura. Again, she felt helpless and alone - the feelings that she experienced her entire life. The leader stepped forward, and she felt a sharp needle piercing her soft skin; then, everything was black.
Laura suddenly awoke in the back of a mobile van. There were no windows, and everything was so dark; she could not tell if the sun had risen or not. She tried to sit up, but realised that her hands and feet were bound and chained to the floor. As her eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, she looked around to find anything that might help her escape. But before Laura could give it any more thought, the van stopped. She felt a jerk as the sudden lack of momentum thrust her into the air. She braced herself for impact and landed with a thud. Then, the trunk was raised, and she instinctively put up her hands to shield her eyes from the blinding brilliance of the sun, rising above the horizon. Laura felt a yank, and she was lifted out the van. The man had one arm wrapped around her neck so tightly that made her choke, and he used his other arm to hold her at gunpoint. She could feel the cold surface of the gun, pressed against her temple. A single teardrop escaped Laura's eyes; it tinkered down her cheeks and landed on the cold, hard concrete.
Last night...
Logan couldn't sleep. he tossed and turned in his bed, wondering if Laura was alright. At midnight, he decided to take a stroll to the kitchen. However, on the way there, his animalistic instincts picked up a commotion down the hall.
Without hesitation, he ran as fast as he could towards the source of the noise, his claws out, ready to fight. However, when he finally got there, it was too late. When he kicked open Laura's door, he saw the broken window and shattered pieces of glass on the floor. "no..." he whispered, and his claws slowly slid back into his hands. He knew he mustn't waste any more time, and he knew Charles could help locate Laura.
Logan found Charles in his office; he was still awake, working at his desk. "Laura's taken. It's all my fault," said Logan, worry and regret written all over his face. "I shouldn't have let her stay in her room alone last night." "Seems like you're hell bent on blaming yourself..." Charles replied calmly, like he always did. "I've known you for a long time now. But what's done is done. What's important is that we get her back to safety."
The duo rushed into Cerebro and hoped that they would be able to locate Laura. Charles shoved the helmet onto his head and focused on Laura. Once again, Charles felt her pain, her loneliness, her despair. Charles saw all that he needed, and he took his helmet off. "she is in a vehicle, and it's mobile." he told Logan, "It took off about half an hour ago, and it's moving along the shoreline. I think we'll be able to intercept it in West Haven at dawn if we move now." "let's go then, I'm driving," said Logan, already running out of the room, Charles right on his heels.
