"Hey, Delia!" I looked up from my homework to see Ashton smiling down at me. He slid into the seat next to me, and we continued our conversation while we waited for Mr. Trent to arrive.
"Hey, Ash. Feeling better?" I smiled.
"Yeah I got some sleep last night. I feel refreshed." he smirked as he stretched his arms above his head. I giggled at his silly remark.
"How was yesterday? Sorry I was gone."
"It was alright." I looked down, remembering yesterday's events in the cafeteria.
"What's wrong?" he asked me.
"Nothing." I lied.
Just then, Luke walked in. He glanced at me, and our eyes met before he sat down on the other side of the room. I looked down, playing with my nails. A habit I have when I'm nervous.
"Is it Luke? What did he do now?" Ashton's voice went hard.
"He didn't do anything... We just got in a little argument at lunch yesterday."
"What?" he raised his voice.
"Shh, it's OK. He apologized." I tried to quiet him so no one would look at us.
"Luke Hemmings apologized?" his eyes widened.
"Why is that such a shock to you?" I questioned.
"Cause he's a dick."
Suddenly, Luke stood up and stomped out of the room. He must have heard us.
"Good going!" I lightly slapped Ashton's arm.
"Why do you keep defending him?" he wondered.
"I'm not."
"C'mon. You hated him just a few days ago, and now you're getting mad at me when I insult him.
"I don't know. Maybe I just feel sorry for him."
"Why would you feel sorry for Luke?"
"I don't know."
"Well why don't we just forget about Luke and you come over to my house for dinner tonight?"
I looked up at him, and, weirdly, he looked a bit nervous.
"Okay." I grinned.
-------------------------------------
"Okay, so this is my house."
We pulled up outside a small brick red house. I had called my Aunt after school and asked permission to come to Ash's house. Now here we are!
He came around the front of the car and held the door open for me, "M'lady." he bowed. I giggled as I stepped out of the car. Ashton never failed to put a smile on my face.
We walked up to the front door, and he held it for me again. I stepped inside to see a little boy running towards us.
"Ash!"
"Hey, Harry! What's up?" he hugged the little boy.
"Who's she?" he asked. Obviously talking about me.
"This is my best friend, Delia."
"Hi." I shyly smiled at him.
"You're really pretty." the little boy told me.
"Isn't she?" Ashton remarked.
Did Ashton just call me pretty? I just looked down and blushed.
"C'mon Delia. I'll show you my room." he held out his hand which I took. He then led me to the right and through a door which led to his room.
We walked into a room with brick walls covered in posters. It was a pretty dark room. My eyes were drawn to a drumset in the corner.
"Do you play the drums?" I asked him.
"Yeah." he looked down and scratched the back of his head.
"Are you in a band?"
"No. I don't exactly know anybody looking for a drummer... Do you want me to play something for you?"
"Yeah!" I sat down on his bed facing the drumset. He grabbed a pair of drumsticks off his dresser and sat behind the set. He began playing, with a smile growing on his face as he looked down at his hand movements. Ashton was good. Really good. He seemed so happy when he played. Like he was in his own little world. He finished off and looked at the floor.
"I know I'm not that great." he spoke slowly.
"Ash, you're amazing." I told him.
"You think so?" he looked at me with a smile. I nodded in reply.
"Any band would be lucky to have you as their drummer."
He just blushes, "You're really cool, Delia." I smiled in return.
"So what do you wanna do?" he asks as he sits next to me on his bed.
“I don’t know. You invited me over!” I giggled, giving him a playful shove.
“Oh I know!” he suddenly stood up. I could see the eagerness in his eyes, “c’mon.” He grabbed my hand and led me through the hallway again and out a sliding glass door. He walked over to the trampoline in the corner and started to take his shoes off.
“Really?” I stopped dead in my tracks, “Are we five?”
“No,” he giggled, “We’re six.”
I just laughed and followed him over to the trampoline where he helped me up. We jumped and jumped like we were little kids until the sun started to go down. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had this much fun. I met Ashton’s sister, Lauren and his parents. He has such a kind family. And we all ate together at a dining room table. Something I haven’t done since before my mom died. It was so wonderful how Ashton and his family treated me like their own. I felt like I was a part of the family.
Ashton drove me home afterwards, and he ended up walking me to the door. We went the back way since there were still customers in the restaurant.
“Thank you, Ashton,” I told him.
“You don’t have to thank me. I like having you around.” he grinned.
“I like you having me around too. You’re the first true friend I’ve ever had.”
“Yeah...friend.” he muttered as he looked down.
“Huh?”
“Nothing. I’ve gotta get home. Thanks for coming over, Del.” he kissed my forehead and quickly got in his car. I stood there, not knowing what to think until the sound of his car’s engine had faded away.
Could Ashton really feel that way about me?
Hey I want to thank everyone who’s been reading! I apologize for making all this stuff happen with Ashton when this is a Luke fic. The next chapter is from Luke’s POV, so it will hopefully make up for him not really being in this chapter! And, just so you know, it will take some time for them to really develop feelings for each other. I don’t want to move too fast!
So thanks again for reading! Please vote and comment I appreciate it! ily!!! xxx
