I walked through the crowded halls of the school carrying my books for the morning. Ashton and I didn't speak all weekend. I'm dreading having to face him in maths today since I'm still incredibly angry with him. He invaded my privacy. And he's too controlling. I'm not even allowed to be friends with Luke. I think he might break up with me if he saw me with Luke again. But I just don't care.

"Hey Luke." I stopped in front of him at his locker, giving him a wide grin.

"Hey Delia. Where's Ashton?" he finished getting what he needed from his locker and closed it, turning to me and leaning one shoulder on his locker.

"Um, we're not talking." I drug out.

"What happened?"

"Nothing. It was stupid. But, um, I was wondering... Do you wanna hang out after school? My uncle says someone else is covering your shift." I don't know why I was so nervous to ask Luke just to hang out. We've hung out many times before; it's nothing new.

"Delia... Look, I promised Ashton I wouldn't hang out with you anymore, and so did you."

"Wait... He told you about my promise?" I furrowed.

"Uh..." he looked like he wished he hadn't mentioned that.

"And you're just gonna listen to him? C'mon, Luke. I'm kind of angry with Ashton right now, and I just need a friend today. I'll come over to your house this afternoon. It's the one down the street from the diner right? The blue one?"

"Yeah, but Delia-"

"I'll see you later." I smiled before striding off to my first class.

I took a deep breath as I made my way up the walk to his front door, assuming his parents weren’t home since there weren’t any cars in the driveway. I was real nervous, but I wasn’t exactly sure why. I’ve been getting really close to Luke lately, and he’s turned out to be the complete opposite of what I thought he was. So was Ashton…

I looked down at my shuffling feet as I knocked on the hard wooden door. I hoped that Luke wouldn’t turn me away since it had seemed like he didn’t even want me to come over.

“Delia.” he breathed, looking down at me standing there in his doorway in my skinny jeans and tank top.

“Hi Luke.” I shyly spoke. I wasn’t used to seeing him in clothing other than his school uniform. He was wearing black sweat pants and a deep green Nirvana shirt. He had most of his head covered by a gray beanie. He looked absolutely adorable.

“Come in.” he awkwardly shifted to the side, allowing me to enter his house. It had a strange feeling to it. It didn’t feel warm and welcoming like Ashton’s. It wasn’t exactly a mess, but all the furniture was old and run down. There weren’t family pictures hanging on the wall or a happy, welcoming mom or dad coming to greet me.

“Um, do you wanna go to my room?” he asked me awkwardly as he closed the door behind me and locked it.

“Yeah.” I smally smiled and followed him up the stairs to his bedroom.

“Sorry for the mess.” he rushed to pick up clothes and shoes from his floor. It wasn’t even that much of a mess, just a little clothing in spots.

“Don’t worry about it.” I told him. Luke’s room was much different from the rest of the house. I felt weirdly at home in there. It was small and cozy. He had blue sheets on his bed that was pushed into the back corner of the room. The one window was blocked by black-colored blinds, and the white walls were covered in posters.

“Are these the bands you were talking about?” I asked him, gesturing towards the many band posters he had hung above his dresser.

“Yeah some of them.” he threw the last shirt in his hamper before walking over to me and looking up at the posters I was examining.

“You know we still haven’t listened to any of your music like you promised me.” I turned and looked up at him, a wide grin on my face.

“Well let me fulfill that promise now then.” he smiled at me before turning and walking over to his bed, sitting on it and opening up his laptop.

“C’mere.” he patted the bed next to me, and I obeyed, taking a seat next to him as he scrolled through his itunes, “What to listen to first?”

“Luke, I’m sorry I basically forced you to let me come over here. I’m being real selfish, I-”

“Shh.” he shushed me, pressing play on a song that I could see was by a band called All Time Low.

“This is one of my favorites. It’s called Lost in Stereo by All Time Low. They are literally my idols.” I listened to the song, and I could hear that it was the same singer from the song that Michael was playing in his car the other day. I had never really heard music like this before. It sounded awesome.

“I really like it.” I smiled, tapping my hand on my knee to the beat.

“I knew you would. I’ve loved them forever. They’re part of my inspiration for starting a band with Cal and Mikey. Their music is the best, and they’re fucking awesome people in general.” I watched his eyes light up when he talked about them. It’s like they’re his entire world. Music’s his entire world.

“Do you have the CD I could borrow?” I asked him.

“Yeah I have all of theirs, do you want them?” he stood up and opened a drawer to his desk, pulling out a few CD cases.

“Yeah it sounds like they’re really good.” I grinned, taking the CDs from his hands as he sat back down.

“They’re awesome. Once you know all those songs I’ll get you started on another band.”

“Luke! Why do you have your music so loud again?” I heard a voice, which I assumed was his mother’s yelling from downstairs.

“Shit,” Luke cursed under his breath, “she wasn’t supposed to home until later.”

“Luke what are you-” she stopped speaking when she opened his bedroom to see me sitting there next to her son, “Who are you?”

“Mom, this is Delia.” he told her, standing up and looking her in the eyes.

“Luke you know I don’t like you having other people in the house! Especially when I’m not home!” she yelled, pointing her finger at him, “And you haven’t cleaned up anything! The house is a mess! It’s a school night, don’t you have homework? And you have some girl over!”

“She’s not some girl-” Luke’s voice went hard.

“I’m just Luke’s friend, ma’am. And it’s my fault. I came over without an invitation. I’m very sorry.” I stood up, putting myself in between Luke and his mother.

“You have no fucking right intruding here in my son’s life. Leave.” she cursed at me.

Luke turned to me, “Get out of here, Delia.”

I grabbed my bag with the CDs Luke gave me in it and walked as quickly as I could. When I reached the bottom of the stairs I heard more yelling followed by a smash. I rushed out the door and ran down the sidewalk back home and away from that scary place I had sent myself to.
