It was Friday night, and I was over at Ashton’s sitting on the couch in his living room while watching a movie. I sort of “helped him babysit his brother and sister” while his parents were out. We were sat on the loveseat, his right arm draped around my shoulder while I tried to focus on the movie we had on. We mostly just made out the whole beginning, so I hadn’t the slightest clue what was going. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, and I pulled it out to see a text from Luke:
what r u wearing? ;-)
I received another one immediately after that read:
just kidding! what’s up?
I let out a quiet laugh before responding:
just watching a movie, you?
“Who was that?” Ashton asked.
“Nobody.” I replied before setting my phone on my lap. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to my cheek before pulling me closer and turning his attention back to the television screen. My phone vibrated again:
can i come watch too?
I sighed before responding:
it’s almost over
He immediately replied:
then when i get there we can watch another one :-)
I was trying everything to get myself out of telling him I was with Ashton:
i’m watching it with my little cousin, sorry
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” I excused myself, leaving my phone on the couch where I was previously sitting.
When I returned, I saw Ashton holding my phone and giving me a look of disbelief.
“Delia...Why are you texting with Luke?” his tone was rough.
“Ashton why are you looking through my phone?” I stomped over and snatched it out of his hand. He stood up and pointed his finger at me.
“You promised you would stay away from him!” he grit his teeth.
“I don’t understand why I can’t have a friend!” I yelled, “Besides Luke you’re the only person I have! Why can’t I be friends with someone?”
“But he doesn’t want to be your friend, Delia! He just wants to fuck you!” he shouted.
“And how do you know that huh? You’ve hated him your whole life for no reason. You don’t know anything about him.” I spoke at my normal level but still with an angry tone.
“Why is he asking you what you’re wearing? Are you already fucking him? You cheating on me? That’s all he ever wants from girls is sex!”
“It was a fucking joke, Ashton! Why would you think I’m cheating on you? Luke is just my friend! And you’re my boyfriend. And boyfriend’s are supposed to be a lot more trusting of their girlfriends than you are.” I insulted.
“God he always gets the fucking girls, and I never do! And right when I actually get one he goes and tries to take her from me.” he shakes his head, staring at the floor.
“Ashton, he is not going to take me away from you. But if you don’t stop getting angry with me all the time, then you might get rid of me yourself.” I grabbed my bag and headed for the door.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to let you cool off a bit. See you Monday, Ashton.” I walked down the walkway of Ashton’s house and started down the sidewalk. Looks like I’m going to have to walk home since Ashton’s being an ass. I really liked him at first. But now he just gets so angry whenever it comes to Luke. How did I get stuck in this situation? I looked back at my phone to see that Luke had never texted me back after my last reply. So I decided to let him know of the change in plans:
actually the movie’s over now. wanna meet for pizza? (:
he responded almost immediately:
yeah! but you know, the smileys’ are a lot cuter when you do them like this :-)
---------------------------------
“Favorite movie of all time?” we’re sitting across from each other at midnight at a table in the pizza place we came to a couple weeks ago. We’ve finished a whole pizza together and it seemed like we’d been sitting here for hours. Luke suggested we play a game of twenty questions. It seemed like we’d asked way more than twenty.
“Um...Titanic.” I answered.
“Really? Titanic? That’s so cliche.” Luke replied.
“Oh really? What’s yours?” I laughed.
“I don’t wanna say…” he trailed off.
“Why? Is yours even worse than mine?” I giggled.
“It’s Mean Girls.” he whispered. I tried to stifle my laugh by covering my mouth with my hand.
“Aww man I knew you’d laugh.” he groaned.
“I’m not laughing.” I smiled, before busting out laughing. He looked up at me and started laughing too.
“Sorry.” I giggled.
“No it’s fine. Michael gives me shit for it all the time.” he grinned.
“How long have you known Michael?” I wondered.
“Michael and I have been friends since we were kids. Calum didn’t come along until high school.”
“I wish I had friends I’d known that long. I never really made any friends until I met you and Ashton.” I confessed. His smile faded at the mention of Ashton. It sucks how I can’t bring up either of the people that mean the most of me to each other without it getting awkward.
“So you’re a dancer?” Luke asked, changing the subject.
“Huh?” his question came out of nowhere.
“The ballet slippers in your room.” he mentioned to spark my memory.
“Oh. Well I used to be. My mom’s old boss taught me some ballet motions when I was younger. But my mom could never afford to send me to a studio, so I never got to do it seriously.” I explained.
“Why not do it now? I bet your aunt and uncle could afford it.”
“I could never ask them to do that. They’ve done enough for me already.”
“Well isn’t it something you love to do? You should fight for it.” he encouraged.
“But I don’t deserve it.”
“Don’t ever say you don’t deserve to be happy, Delia.”
“Why are you so nice to me?” I shook my head, my eyes not leaving his gaze.
“Because you’re the only person who’s ever listened to me.”
“What about Michael and Calum?”
“They’re great friends, but they don’t really listen, you know?” he put emphasis on the word ‘listen’.
“Then why are you friends with them?”
“Because even though they don’t understand me, they’re there when I need a distraction.” Luke explained.
“A distraction from what?” I felt like I was asking too many questions.
“From life.” he whispered, looking down.
“Luke, what do you mean?” I shook my head, furrowing my eyebrows. I didn’t understand what he was talking about.
“Nevermind. Forget I said anything.” he looked back up at me and put on his best fake smile.
“Next question.”
