Here I am alone at lunch again. Of course since Ashton's such a genius he went into the library during lunch period to tutor some freshman. So now I have to sit alone again. I didn't bother going up in the lunch line since I wasn't all that hungry. So I just sat there picking at my nails like usual.

"Where's your boyfriend?" I looked up to see Luke taking a seat next to me at my lunch table. We've never really talked civilly at school before. I wonder why he's deciding to change that now.

"He's tutoring someone." I answered shortly.

"Oh Ashton Irwin the genius." he sarcastically replied.

"He's tutoring a freshman in Pre Algebra, it's not that hard." I retorted.

"Do you wanna come sit with me and my friends?" he suddenly asked.

"Um sure." I smiled, standing up and walking with him over to his friends. Michael, Calum, and Millie were over there all laughing at something Michael was going on about. Luke sat next to Michael across from Millie and Calum, and I took a seat on the other side of Luke.

"Hey guys I invited Delia to sit with us today." Luke announced.

"Hey Delia!" Michael exclaimed.

"So you guys are getting along again now?" Calum chuckled.

"We always get along, don't we Luke?" I sarcastically smirked.

"Yeah I don't know what you're talking about Calum." Luke laughed.

"Whatever you guys keep telling yourselves that." Michael chuckled loudly.

The boys turned back to each other and Millie as Michael continued his story we had missed the beginning of. Millie and Calum kept touching each other and giggling at one another. If I didn't know any better I'd say they liked each other.

"So what are you doing tonight?" Luke asked me, obviously not caring about whatever story Michael was sharing.

"Just working probably. I have nothing else to do." I laughed at myself.

"Okay well I know your uncle gave me the night off, but I've been getting sort of behind in Calculus, and I was wondering if I could come over and maybe you could help me a little? But seriously don't feel like you have to." he rushed.

I heard my own voice in my head promising Ashton I would stay away from Luke, but I chose to ignore it.

"Yeah. Wanna come over right after school? You can stay for dinner and everything." I offered.

"Okay." he almost whispered, giving me a wide grin.

And in the back of my head, I knew this was a bad idea.

----------

"And your answer should be two."

"Fuck I got 73." Luke moaned.

We'd been going at this for an hour and a half now. We've done about thirty problems and eaten four slices of pizza each. We were sitting in a corner booth at the diner. It was just starting to get a bit dark.

"I just don't understand this, Delia." he groaned, throwing down his pencil and placing his head in his hands.

"Here let me see it." I took the notebook from him, examining his work.

"Oh I know what you did wrong. You just need to-"

"Delia I just can't focus. It's really loud in here."

"Um okay well we can go up to my room if you want. C'mon." I grabbed his notebook for him and began to make my way towards the stairs in the corner.

"But Delia-" he protested.

"Just come on." I grabbed his wrist and pulled him out of his seat. He decided to give in and follow me up to my room.

I awkwardly opened the door. Honestly nervous about Luke seeing my room. I placed his notebook on the bed and closed the door once he was in. We both just kind of stood there awkwardly.

"Um just make yourself comfortable."

He slowly turned and took a seat on the end of my bed. I followed and sat on the opposite end.

"Are those ballet shoes?" he gestured towards my old ballet slippers hanging from a hook by my mirror.

"Um yeah. I used to dance. You know, back before my mother was gone." I whispered the last part, looking down at my hands as I played with my nails. My nervous habit.

"Why happened to her?" he asked. I could hear the care in his voice.

"Cancer." I choked out.

"She didn't deserve it you know? She got pregnant with me in high school, and my dad left her. She got kicked out of her parents' house and had no where to go. She worked her ass off night and day for me. She never did anything to anyone. She was the most wonderful person I've ever known." I could feel the tears now streaming down my cheeks.

Luke didn't speak. Instead he just scoot over to my side of the bed and wrapped his arms around me. This caused me to cry even harder and wrap my arms around him too. We stayed like that for a few minutes before I decided to pull away.

"Sorry about that." I sniffled, now done with my crying.

"Don't be sorry." he responded, "I'm sorry I asked."

"No its ok. The therapist I saw for a whole after her death said that it's good to talk about it. Thank you for listening and not laughing at me."

"Why on earth would I laugh at you?" he furrowed his eyebrows.

"I don't know. I just don't like crying in front of people."

"Well you can cry in front of me. I won't judge." he gave me one of those smiles where you don't open your mouth. It was adorable on him.

"And you know Luke, you can talk to me too if you want. Seriously I won't make fun of you." I promised.

"I understand. Not tonight okay?" he picked up the notebook off my bed and placed it in his lap.

"Now how do I do this one?"

I was kind of surprised at Luke. He was so kind today. He's been getting nicer and nicer to me every day. Sure he still had his occasional blow ups.  But overall, I could see him changing as a person. He doesn't seem to care what his friends think of him hanging out with me anymore. And he was so comforting tonight when I talked about my mom. I hadn't planned on crying, it just happened. But Luke was there. He didn't say anything, but he didn't need to. He hugged me and everything seemed to feel better. He had such a warm embrace. The way his arms wrapped around me and how he placed his chin on the top of my head made me feel safe. It gave me a wonderful feeling. A feeling I never wanted to forget.
