The Moon

Before the sun completely set we went to the park where this all started and prepared.

The sun had set and I had been sitting for awhile. I was terrified. This is fucking crazy, black people don't do this stuff! I hear heavy breathing, and turn to see that walking towards me is Yana's murderer, and I know what she's capable of. She's in a trench coat and in a red and white surgical mask.

I know what to expect and it takes a lot of self control not to run away. I ball my hands into fists and look as the moon shining as I breath. I lower my head and right in front of me is Kuchisake-onna. She is staring at me with coal-like eyes, contrasting against her paper complexion. I stand and act casual.

"Good evening." She steps closer to me and asks in a raspy voice.

"Am I pretty?" Her pale hands with black nails that look more like talons twitch, as if she's a junkie getting her next fix.

"Sure, I don't see why not. The world is a beautiful place, we're all god's children so aren't we all beautiful?" I just rambled fast, trying not to piss myself. She tilted her head in confusion and then blood dribbled out the side of her mask. Her eyes grew larger and looked as if she was smiling under her mask. She slowly brings a pale hand to her face and removes her mask. Her mouth is a jagged cut from ear to ear, her teeth in crooked rows and skin flaps black with rot, the whole mess bleeding as if freshly cut. She opens her mouth and out comes a craggly rasp-like sound.

"Am I pretty now?" I stand there in horror as I wait for Daichi to jump out with his ofuda. But he doesn't, I'm all alone. In panic I rip out my ofuda and at the same time she pulls out her humongous scissors. I stick it on her and at the same time she thrusts the scissors, but I dodge and get a hot slash of pain against my side. But the ofuda sticks and in a rush to double tap the bitch I yank the other one from my pocket and stick it straight on her face. She screeches in pain and thrashes around, swinging her scissors and almost cutting me again as I raced for Daichi's spot in the brush.

"Daichi!" I gasp in horror. I find him laying on the ground, blood running from his face. He has a deep gash from his ear to the corner of his mouth. I shake him, but he's delirious from being unconcious. It was a trick, she saw us coming! This wasn't supposed to happen!

"Daichi wake up, please!" I help him up as he starts to mumble something, then cries out in pain as I look down to see a scissor blade stuck in his middle and the other one cut deeper in my injured side. I scream as the scissors are snatched out and fall down. I look behind us at Kuchisake-onna as she sticks her tongue out of her face and licks the scissor blade tasting our blood and cutting her tongue as well.

In a hoarse whisper she croaks, "The blood of my murderer's family being spilled is gorgeous! You're extra, but that's okay!" I worked the last ofuda out of Daichi's pocket and as she raises her scissors to finish us off I tackle her and we go rolling down a hill into a stream. We skid to a stop under a cherry blossom tree and I smack the last ofuda over her heart as I begin to chant.

"Akyryo tai san! Akyryo tai san! Akyryo tai san!" I chant louder and louder. She writhes in pain and buckles to her knees as I chant. She clutches at her heart and rips at her hair as the moonlight grows brighter illuminating the stream's blossom covered surface. She reaches towards the moon and fades away. First her hand, then working it's way down her arm and across her body. With a cry of finality she's nothing more than light fragments, white as snow and flowing into the sky towards the moon. I drop down, my energy completely gone. I look up at the moon and stars and take in it's beauty that Yana loved so much and let the cool water run across my legs. My sister used to say it's funny how things can change in so little time. Now I say the same thing, because it's true, they do.
