"Good morning, young lady." She said to me as I approached the counter. "What can I get for you today?"
"Umm, how about a peppermint latte..?" I looked up at the menu board and picked out.
She nodded and smiled. "That's a good choice. I love the peppermint latte." She rung up my drink and it was just below $5 dollars. I waved to the lady at the front and left the small coffee shop.
The morning was crisp, a home kind of feeling. I liked it. I knew I was going to enjoy life in Seattle. As I strolled around the city, I noticed a mysterious looking man standing at a little cafe. I sipped on my hot coffee and started to slowly approach him. The cafe looked neat and the aroma of food sneaked through the door as a few people walked out. It was time to eat something. The man started to look over at me and I gave him a slight smile.
"Mornin'." He said softly as I began to open the door.
"Good morning." I replied back to him. Before I walked in, I examined this man closely. More like young man. He didn't look like he was any older than me. He had dark brownish hair that was kind of shaggy, but not too long. He had some facial and my, was it attractive. He had a cup of something hot in his hand as he was peacefully sipping it. The breeze became cold.
"Care to join me?" I asked politely. I just met the guy and now I'm inviting him to have breakfast with me. How stupid.
He slowly turned his head towards me, brilliantly colored green eyes staring back into mine. I started to feel uneasy, like this man had a secret to him. I could easily sense someone who might have a bad vibe to them.
He just shook his head. "No thanks. I just ate."
"But, why are standing out here in the cold?" I replied.
"Excuse me, young lady," A woman called from her seat in the cafe. "Would you puhlease close that damn door?"
The way she said 'please' made me slam the door. This woman looked like she was rich, wearing a nice dress with her high-heels that might have been close to $200. She must be one of those people who bragged about everything they own.
"Aren't you going in?" The man said to me, taking my attention off of the rich lady. "People don't like when you stare at them."
I felt my face flush. "Oops. Sorry. I'm a from a small town in Arizona, so I often do it a lot."
He raised one eyebrow. "Really? What brings you to Seattle?"
I walked over to the other side of him. "Well, I've been wanting to move out because my life at home was stressful. So I needed to get out and live my life."
"Yeah, I guess I did the same thing. My dad passed away and my mother moved, so I'm taking care of myself." He replied.
"Huh. That's interesting. Well, it was nice to meet you, uhh.."
"Ryo." He put out his hand to shake mine. Our hands locked in a tight grip.
"Alexandria." I said and smiled, shaking his hand firmly. A Japanese name for an American man? I liked it. "I'm going to go in and eat something before I freeze to death out here."
"Okay. See you around." Ryo let go of my hand and started to walk away. I didn't want to ask for his number because that was weird, especially someone you just met. I walked into the cafe and the same rich lady was giving me dirty looks. I just ignored her and ordered some food.
Once I got my food, I found myself sitting at a table next to the window. People were passing by and looked at me every once in a while. I was kind of hoping that same guy would come back. I wanted to meet him some more and get to know him better. He was a very handsome young man. I mean, he was a beautiful man. My thoughts trailed off when the door swung open and bell rung loudly through the cafe. I looked back and saw a girl about my age walk in with bags hanging from her arms. She walked towards the rich lady who instantly opened her arms to embrace this young preppy girl.
"Victoria, darling! I missed you so much!" The rich lady stood up and hugged the blonde girl Victoria. I watched as they let go of the hug and Victoria sat at the table with the rich lady. They started to chat up a conversation and out of the corner of my eye, I saw the same guy.
Ryo. I mumbled to myself. He was standing across the street and talking to another man. The other man looked like he was angry with Ryo. I wanted to walk out and see what was going on, but some part of me told me not to get involved.
"Ryo and Stephen are fighting again!" I heard Victoria shout as she ran out with the loud clicks of her heels trailing behind her. She jumped in the way and shoved Ryo hard, almost sending him down against the sidewalk. Ryo caught himself from the fall and he just walked away. The muffled screams coming from Stephen were inaudible. Victoria held onto Stephen and kissed him, walking back to the cafe.
"Don't worry about that dick, he is NOT worth your time baby." Victoria said as she led him to the table. Victoria and the rich lady with the resting bitch face comforted him. He was badly bruised and bleeding from his nose and a few other cuts on his face.
I ate the last bite of my food and grabbed my bag. I caught Victoria looking at me. She wasn't giving me dirty looks just like her mom or whoever the rich lady was to her. She was actually giving me a look of 'you saw what happened and probably want to hear about it'. I just didn't say anything, left a 5 dollar tip on the table, and walked out of the cafe.
"Hey! Wait!"
I turned around. A female figure was standing the distance.
It was Victoria. She quickly caught up to me.
