I see him a second after I collide straight into his chest. The impact makes me fall back onto my butt and drop my books everywhere. At first I am too stunned to move and can only look up into his eyes. He moves before I do and collects my books for me, then offers me a hand to help me stand up. I accept quickly, keeping my eyes glued to the floor so he can't see the blush slowly crawling up my cheeks.

"Are you okay?" He asks after a second of hesitation. I nod my head, eyes still on the floor. I then realize that I am still holding his hand and I drop it quickly and pull my sleeve down before he has the chance to notice anything. I decide to take a chance and meet his eyes. His eyes brows are furrowed with concern.

"Thanks" I mumble quietly after he returns me books to me. He seems to sense that I am uncomfortable so after sending me a small smirk, he ducks around me and is gone.

My anxiety has risen to new heights, but I don't want to make another scene by rushing out, so I began to scan the cafeteria for a place to sit. After a few moments of awkwardly standing alone, I spot a girl I recognize from my first hour. She is sitting with only two other girls so I decide this may be my best option. As I slowly approach the table, she turns her head to look at me and smiles warmly.

"C-can I sit with you guys?" I say quickly and stumble over my words.

"Of course! I am Charlie, and you are  Brooklyn, right?" I nod, scared that I might stammer again. She points to the open seat on her left and then to the pretty blond girl on her right. "Sit down, this is Jules."  After I sit down, she points to the dark hair girl to the left of Jules. Before she can introduce her, a tall boy saunters up, kisses the dark haired girl on the cheek, and slides into the seat next to her. Charlie rolls her eyes, and before she can continue with the introductions, the boy interrupts.

"I'm Zach, and this is Sam" He says while he slings an arm across her shoulders. She blushes a little, but then shrugs his arm off of her.

"Zach stop, I have to finish these questions before my next class." Charlie tosses them a slightly irritated glance and then turns toward me.

"So how has your first day been?" I think back to the two hours I spent crying in the bathroom and decide that is not worth mentioning.

"It's been alright I guess. I already ran into someone and made a total fool out of myself, so I guess I am not off to a great start."

Her eyes widen a little bit. "Wait, was that you that plowed straight into James earlier?"

I cringe at the memory and nod.
