I told her everything. Including how a bearded guy dressed in a suit knocked on my door and asked me questions on carbon monoxide. How he came into my house and started messing around with my gas cylinder. She listened carefully not interrupting, her face devoid of emotions.
"That son of a-"she was interrupted by a knock on the door she was leaning on. I froze. She opened the door calmly and asked "Yes?"
"Sorry ma'am but you've been there an awfully long time." Riley said.
"Oh sorry, Mr.Christian wanted to chat a bit." Savannah replied in an Irish accent. "I have to go now sir, I'll see you soon." And then she left. Riley smiled at me knowingly.
"What?" I asked innocently.
"Oh nothing. Nothing at all." he replied.
"Ok-ay."
"I believe my sister just visited you....." Riley murmured closing the door. I stood frozen for the second time that day.
This day keeps surprising me!
*Savannah's POV*
"Shit!" I said as soon as I got into the car. "Shit! Shit! SHIT!" I banged the steering wheel. Riley had seen me. He might have already informed the chief. I groaned when Riley knocked on the passenger side window. I opened it and glared at him with pure hatred. Sisterly hatred.
"Aw don't be like that sis." he laughed.
"Shut up!" I said staring straight ahead.
"I didn't bust you. I saw you the moment you entered that floor. If I wanted to bust you I would have done it then." he said seriously. I continued to stare straight ahead. "I knew you'd visit. I mean c'mon I've been living with you since you were born nineteen years ago. You my sister are very predictable....to me."
After an awkward silence I said "Thanks."
"Anytime. Look I gotta go but if you need me call me. Unlike you I haven't changed my number." Riley said grinning. He was always playful around me. Sometimes I swear I thought I was older.
"How'd you know?!" I asked, disbelief etched on my face. Clearly, he was enjoying this by the look on his face.
"Because your precious charming boyfriend was panicking saying he couldn't contact you."
I sighed. "My life is turning into a hell hole all of a sudden. I hate it! It was like the calm before the storm last week. And when I'm trying to fix this, people decide to stand in my way and tell me 'We'll do it you just rest'"
He looked at me with concern and understanding. "I know. Its like when mom went missing. We were trying to fix it. Trying to put it the right side up. And people didn't want us doing anything." I nodded, there was a big lump in my throat. "Savannah it will work. We found mom. We'll find those people. I'll make sure of it."
