Change My Ways – Chapter 3

Everyone started whispering in hushed voices and shooting me envious and disgusted looks. I shrank down in my chair and played with a loose strand of my hair feeling extremely self-conscious.

“What?” Trinity cried standing up and shooting an exasperated look at the teacher, “You’ve got to be kidding me?” Her eyes grew wide as she jabbed her finger in my direction, “You cannot seriously pair Mason with her, I mean just look at her!”

Great, just great. More humiliation!

“This cannot be happening.” I sighed putting my head in my hands as Trinity continued to ramble, throwing her hands in the air and calling me all sorts of horrible names.

“Trinity!” A husky, deep voice that sent shivers down my spine exclaimed, “Just chill out would you?”

Trinity fell into silence and folded her arms, “But Mason babe, I really wanted to be paired together.” She said putting her recently glossed lips into a convincible pout.

I saw Mason’s expression soften, all edginess in his eyes disappearing. He put an arm around her shoulder and bent down to whisper something in her ear. Trinity nodded but didn’t look happy about it; she shot a glare in my direction before sitting back in her seat and leaning her head against Mason’s chest. I let out a sigh of relief when everyone returned their attention to the teacher, I could feel the blush still tingling on my cheeks as I exhaled and leaned back in my chair.

“Now that that’s all sorted.” The teacher muttered rolling her eyes and turning back to the board, “Your assignment will be due in one month.  I suggest you meet up with your partner at least twice a week to work on it, where and when you meet is entirely up to you. I also advise certain people to actually put effort into this assignment, I will not allow your partner to do everything.” She shot a meaningful look in Mason’s direction before continuing to circle the room talking about deadlines, rules and obligations the assignment was offering.

The shrill ring of the bell blasted it’s way through the classroom causing students to furiously shove books in their bags and run out of the room, I slowly stood up and put my things in my backpack before slinging it over my shoulder and began to walk out of the classroom.

“Hey, wait up!” A voice cried, I turned around startled and looked around the empty classroom to find Mason smiling at me and walking over. His abs rippled under his t-shirt and his hair fell in front of his luscious eyes as his trademark smirk plastered itself on his full lips. My heart started thudding against my chest, his eyes roamed around my body but surprisingly it didn’t make me feel uncomfortable. It felt as if his gaze was burning through me leaving a tingling sensation on my skin.

I sucked in a deep breath and muttered a small, feeble, “Hi.”

“Look I have no intentions of passing this assignment, I honestly don’t care so yeah. But according to the teacher I have no choice and have too help you. Meet me in the library tomorrow afternoon so we can work on it, ok?” He said folding his arms and staring at the clock impatiently, like he just wanted to get out of my presence.

“Ok.” I mumbled trying to hide the disappointment in my tone, I guess my assumption was right, he really was a jerk.

“Glad we have an understanding.” He muttered before his strong, muscular body pushed past me and he ran out the door.

I sighed and walked out the door to find an impatient Tammy looking at me with wide, attentive eyes, “So tell me, what went down between you and Smith?”

“Nothing. He’s just like everyone says he is, he’s a jerk.” I muttered. All my hopes of Mason actually turning out to be a total sweetie were crushed, he was the stereotypical player. He doesn’t give a shit about anyone but himself and his reputation, he’s never fallen in love and he never plans too. He’ll do anything to please his girlfriend but secretly he is hiding the fact that he’s not in love with her. Maybe I’m being to quick to judge Mason? Maybe he is a total angel at heart, but first impressions count for a lot. And his first impression on me: well apart from the fact that he’s incredibly sexy, his personality wasn’t the best.
