Something New Revealed

Chapter 9

I wake up around 7:00… Crap!  I’m going to be late for first period! 

            I jump out of my bed and rummage through my closet for some clothes.  I pull on shorts, and shirt that hangs off one shoulder, and Converse.  I brush my hair and braid it into a side fishtail braid then brush my teeth.  I walk over to wear Belladonna and Dana’s rooms are and I peek inside.  Dana is brushing her hair and Belladonna, already dressed, is back under her covers.  I walk into Belladonna’s room, grab a pillow that she’s not using, and whack her in the face.

            “Damn it!” Belladonna groans.

            “Either get your ass up and walk to your first period or I’ll drag you there myself,” I say impatiently. 

            “Fine, I’ll get up.  I didn’t get that much sleep anyway, so I was gonna have a little snooze before classes start.”

            “Well too bad.”  Belladonna groans and gets up from her bed and walks over to her dresser and brushes her hair.  I smile in satisfaction and walk out of her room, finding Dana standing at the door.

            “Hey,” I say.

            “Morning.  Was that Sleepy Belladonna?” she asks, pointing at Belladonna’s door. 

            “Uh, yea.  Sleepy Belladonna wanted to stay in bed today, but pissed-off Nita smacked her in the face with a pillow and turned into Cornel Flint,” I say impatiently.

            “I can hear you,” Belladonna yells.  I roll my eyes.  Dana looks at me.

            “Why are you pissed off?” she asks.  I wave her off.

            “Don’t worry about it.  I just wanna…”  I look past Dana and through the open door and see a smiley Griffin about to come inside the cabin.  He tiptoes up the stairs, careful not to catch Dana or Belladonna’s attention.  I look back at Dana.  “… just wanna go to breakfast,” I finish.  “I need some nutrition and energy.”  Dana puts up her hand to stop me and then holds up her index finger.  She moves it in a circular motion, mutters something under her breath, and immediately Griffin disappears from his place outside and suddenly POOF!  He’s standing right beside me. 

            “Good morning,” he says.

            “Morning,” I reply.

            “Ready for breakfast?” Griffin asks.

            “Uh-huh.”  I grab Griffin’s hand and look back at Dana.  “See you guys at breakfast,” I tell her.

            “Okay,” Dana replies.  Griffin and I walk out the door and down the gravel road toward the school. 

            “I got this frog last night,” Griffin says.  I smile.

            “Oh really?”

            “Yup.  Turns out it’s from someone named Nita.”  He looks down at me and I look up at him and he smiles.

            “What color?” I ask.

            “What?” he asks with a confused expression.  I point at my eyes, and his I’ve just been awed face appears.  “Ohh!  They are blue.  Actually, more like turquoise.  Any idea what that means?  I know yellow cat eyes means angry, so what does that mean?”

            “Maybe happy, ‘cause I’m content right here with you,” I say.  We enter the Mess Hall and head to the line to pick up our breakfast.
