I walk through the doors and look for Griffin.  I see him sitting with his group of buddies on one side of the room.  I storm over to the table and cross my arms over my chest.

“Can I talk to you?” I ask.

            “Sure.”

“Not here,” I say with an annoyed tone.  “Like on the other side of the room where there’s barely anyone sitting, or outside would be even better.”

“Okay… Be right back, guys,” he says to his friends.  They wave him off.  We walk outside and sit down in the grass.

“What was that about?” I ask.

            “What?”

“When you kissed me in front of Peter.”

“Yea, that.  Just telling that dog that you’re my girl.”

“You’re sounding like a Werewolf yourself, Griffin.  Aren’t the Weres the possessive ones?”

“I wanted to show him that I care about you.  He would probably treat you badly like he did with his sharp-tooth ex.”

“He’s my friend.  He wouldn’t hurt me.  What’d he do to that Vampire?”

“He tortured her- hit her, slapped her, kicked her, cussed her out.  Someone told me he raped her on their first date when she barely knew him.”  My breath catches in my throat and I look at the ground.  Griffin tilts my chin up so I’m looking at him.

“I wouldn’t let anyone hurt you, Nita Flint.  That will be the last thing I do.  Heck, when you first walked into this campus I was like “Shit, who is that girl?”  My friends told me about you that your pattern was crazy, and that made me feel fanatical about you, Nita.  I thought you were the most gorgeous being that’s walked across my path, so I had to make a move.  When I talked to you, you were even more breathtaking.  So now I wanna stay with you and help you figure out what you are and what you’re going to do with your precious life.  I’m not gonna let another Mythical or even Mortal get passed me.”  I sigh.  I might as well give Griffin a chance.  He is the hottest guy I’ve seen so far here, even though Peter is gorgeous too.

“Okay,” I say.  “But when I’m talking to Peter, don’t automatically assume that we’re hooking up or anything, all right?”

“Fine.”  I smile and then Griffin smiles, laces his fingers in mine, and we walk back into the Mess Hall.  We sit down at a table by ourselves to talk and enjoy the first dinner of school.

“Aw, look at them.  They’re so cute together.”

            Belladonna?

“Yea… What’s up with that Peter dude?  Didn’t he come from Nita’s hometown?”

            And Dana?

I turn around, expecting to see Belladonna and Dana sitting at the table behind us, but no, they’re sitting all the way on the other side of the room.  Super hearing, maybe?  Jot that down on the Mythical powers list implanted in my brain.

“Something wrong?” Griffin asks, looking up at me and ignoring his burger.

“I’m fine.”  Suddenly I get the feeling I’m being watched.  I turn around again and see Peter.  He’s leaning against the wall almost all the way across the room.  I look at Griffin.  He must have known Peter was there too because they were staring holes into each other’s heads.  I lay my hand on Griffin’s.
