It was Tuesday.

The aftermath of what has happened to Niall was awful.

Niall was very quiet, only spoke when spoken to.

Jack and Nathaniel had gotten very close to each other.

They were the only comfort each other had.

And nate?

Nate had changed to.

Nate stayed at work longer than usual.

It was 10:45 PM and Nate was still not home.

Jack would often stay up until Nate got home.

Nate may act like a monster but deep down, jack still worried about whether Nate was safe or not.

Niall was lying down on the couch that was opposite of the tv playing and jack sat in the single couch, vertical on the left side of the tv.

Nathanial was sitting in the flor, drawing with some broken crayons.

They had a hard wood floor so Nathaniel was able to draw.

Niall had fallen asleep and an old movie from the 1900's was playing.

Jack watched the movie while waiting for Nate.

What they did was once they knew Nate was home safely, they would go to their rooms and sleep.

They didn't stay awake for long once Nate came home because he would often start yelling at them for the smallest mistakes.

The only light that was on was the light from the upstairs hallway and the tv.

The porch lights were on but their curtains were shut and pulled together.

A couple minutes later, you could hear a car pulling in tot heir double driveway.

Jack turned to look at the door and so did Nathaniel.

A few seconds later you could hear the garage door opening and then closing.

Nate opened the door that led from the garage to their entrance and he entered, resting his suitcase in the floor and eyeing the two visible boys, not seeing Niall.

The boys watched Nate, not a word was said.

Jack lowered the volume slightly and Nathaniel stopped what he was doing.

Nate threw off his coat and dropped it in the floor, kicking it to the side. He took of his dress shoes, leaving them unorganised on the ground.

He didn't bother picking up his suitcase.

It tipped over while Nate was walking and it opened up, the case overflowing with files.

You could tell Nate was exhausted.

He had dark circles and don't bother cleaning up after himself.

After work he would either go to this office and work for a couple hours and then sleep or sleep and wake up early to work in the office before going to his job.

Most nights he'd forget to eat dinner and he barely checked on the boys.

He walked over to the couch not making it entirely there before jack and Nathaniel got up to sleep.

"Where are you two going?" Nate asked, annoyed. He was slightly hurt but didn't show it.

"Uh, to sleep." Jack answered for the two.

Nathaniel stood behind jack, out of sight from Nate.

"Sit down." Nate ordered. "You guys seem to be avoiding me all the times and it's rude."

Jack sighed and sat down on the edge of the couch niall slept on.

Nathaniel sat next to him.

Nate sat in the single couch and watched the tv for a few minutes.

He wore a white collared shirt that he had folded up to his elbows and black dress pants.

He seemed uncomfortable in his office clothes but too tired to go upstairs and change.

His eyes were droopy.

Jack and Nathaniel watched Nate more than the tv, finding him make interesting.

Jack quietly got up and walked upstairs, Nathaniel followed him.

They left after ten minutes so Nate wouldn't be angry.

When they went upstairs, the turned off the hallway light, the entire house blanketed by darkness and entered jacks bedroom.

Nate shut his eyes, leaning forward on the couch and resting his elbows on his thighs.

He's been stressed lately and feels bad about the way he's been treating the kids but can't seem to change his ways.

Niall slept through this all, if he had known Nate was in the same room as him, he'd have been hiding by now.

Oh, how much has changed in this house.

No matter how much the sun is shining, there always seems to be darkness in here.
