Bleed Black: An Academy Novel

Chapter Five

Once Katie reached her room she walked in and shut the door. Walking over to one of her drawers she pulled it open and saw her clothes. Picking up a pair of black sleeping shorts she could smell home. Grabbing a white tank top she shut the drawer. Katie opened a few more drawers until she found the one that had her bras and underwear. Taking out one of the two things Katie shut the drawer. Sitting on her bed she took off the black wedges that were now killing her feet. Standing up her stripped off the legging and the now stained dress. Putting on the bra and panties Katie slipped into the soft black shorts and the white tank top. Sitting in front of her vanity she picked up her hairbrush and brushed out all of the knots. Setting the brush down Katie walked into the bathroom and brushed her teeth. Katie crawled under her white comforter and lied down. Reaching over she flicked off the lights and shut her eyes. She could still hear her heart pounding agents her ribs like it wanted to run away as bad as she did. Katie was terrified about today and tomorrow. She had to choose what tribe she was in tomorrow and she did not even know her choices. Letting out a huge sigh Katie rolled over on her side and begged for sleep. Her begs must have been answered for soon she found herself dreaming.

Katie woke up to a banging on her door. Standing up she thought it was just her mom freaking out that she was late to school. Stretching Katie saw her palm and frowned. It was all true and real. She was not home. Standing up she walked to the door and opened it. Sam stood in the frame her purple hair was let down and blowing with the early fall wind. 

"It's nine fifty five come on get dressed and meet us in the dining hall, we gotta get you into your tribe and Athena will have our heads if we're late." Sam said and walked off before Katie could even get a word out. Shutting the door Katie grabbed a pair of blue jeans and a plain pink shirt. Taking off her sleep wear and slipping into those clothes she grabbed a pair of white Adidas with three purple strips and slipped them on. Sitting at her vanity she brushed her hair and did her usual makeup. Brushing her teeth she grabbed a black jacket she rushed out of her room and went to find out her new life. Once she reached the dining hall her nose filled with the smell of eggs, bacon, waffles, pancakes, toast, and coffee. Grabbing a tray she went out and got two pancakes, three pieces of bacon, and some coffee. Pouring a little bit of creamer in she walked over to the table her new friends sat at. Sitting in the seat she sat at yesterday she looked at everyone. Somehow they all looked tired even thought it was ten o'clock. Blake was pouring powered sugar all over his pancakes while he chewed on a piece of bacon. 

"God it's too early." Sam said her accent thick as she took a bite of eggs and leaning on to Nick. His arm went around her shoulder and he stroked her purple hair. Did they not remember waking up at six A.M for school every day? It was ten o'clock. 

"Katie, we get up at ten thirty for classes. That's why we're tired." Lilith said in a half asleep voice as she cut up a pancake. 

"Yea school is different here, you'll find out soon." Julian said holding Lilith on his lap. 

"Ten thirty? What kind of classes do we have anyways?" Katie asked eating piece of pancake drenched in syrup. 

"We have history of the tribes and creators, the study of our king and queen, how to find creators, and training." Hero said taking a bite of toast. 

"King and queen?" Katie asked looking at her new friends confused again.

"Yeah it's who we worship. The king of night, and the queen of day. Dusk and Dawn." Hero explained. Katie nodded still confused, she had never heard of that religion. 

"We'll tell you more once you've chosen your tribe." Nick said yawning and drinking more coffee. 

"You will know soon enough." Said the kind voice of Athena. Katie turned her head and saw Athena. Her dark brown hair was braided and rested on her right shoulder. She wore a long a long silk black dress that hugged her body. "Morning my children." She said with a smile.
