No One's POV

In the 18th Century, Niklaus went to New Orleans along with Rebekah, Elijah, Caroline and his daggered siblings. In 1820, they were living at the Governor's mansion and payed him in gold to keep quiet about the existence of vampires. They were actually liking to be in New Orleans.

One day, the governor decided to throw a party for the Mikaelson's (and Caroline – who everyone believed was also a Mikaelson), they were all having a great time, Niklaus was entertaining two girls, Rebekah believed that she finally had fund love with the Governor's son but kept it in secret and Caroline was talking with a man who seemed to be found of her.

Rebekah was completely in love and was thinking in turning the Governor's son, Emil, so they could be together forever.

"Elijah, do you think I can turn Emil?" She asked hopefully, because she knew that if Elijah would be alright with it, it would be easier to convince Niklaus.

"I don't think that would be a wise thing to do, Rebekah. Turning the Governor's son to a vampire it's..." Elijah was saying when Nik appeared.

"Please, Rebekah... If you turn every man you fell in love with, the human race would cease to exist." Nik said annoyed.

"That is not true. And I believe that you are being disrespectful to Rebekah. Maybe we could do a duel in Rebekah's honor."

"You want to make a duel with me? Then let me show you how it would end." Niklaus said with a smirk and then got back to his serious face and throw Emil from the balcony.

"No!!!" Rebekah yelled and started to cry.

"Why did you do that?" Caroline asked Niklaus.

"Because love is a vampire's greatest weakness. And this can be something to make you open your eyes and see that a human will never be able to give you happiness, not for as long as you would like to." Niklaus said and walked away, but Caroline followed him and took him to her room.

"Nik, I love you but you can't keep telling us who we are supposed to be with or not. That's private. You don't see us telling you how is wrong to flirt with two women at the same time." Caroline said pissed off.

"They have nothing to do with any of this." Niklaus said angry, but then smirk and said "Unless you are jealous."

"I'm not jealous, but that can't bring that much of attention to you, don't you think?" She asked and Niklaus hatted that she had a point.

"Don't worry, love. I'll be careful."

"And Nik, try to be a little nicer to Rebekah. She just wants to be loved, nothing more."

"Well, it's not my fault that she always fells for the wrong man."

"For you, no man is right for Rebekah." Caroline said after rolling her eyes.

"Came on, Caroline! You are smart. Can you honestly tell me that you don't see a pattern in the men Rebekah fells for? They all seem innocent at first but then we see that they just want to get to me."

"Nik, not everyone wants to hurt you. You need to stop thinking like that or else you will never be truly happy."

"Caroline, no one told me. I saw in all these centuries how people feared me and tried to kill me, I saw how my siblings sometimes look at me with disgust."

"And did you ever wonder why I stay here with you, even in your darkest moments?" She asked him.

"Every single day." He said.

"Well, I stayed by your side because I know you, the real you and I know that it's hidden behind this mask that you made to keep others away from you, in an attempt to protect yourself." She said, making him look at her intensely and then left her room before he would give in to the desire he had for her for quite some time by now.
