((I was thinking about making a part two to the au before this, "reasons." I'm not sure yet but in the mean time enjoy this au!))
Age 5
Nancy and Jonathan have many play dates all the time. Their mothers are quite great friends, meaning they saw each other very often. Nancy was Jonathan's favorite person to see. Even thought they were indeed young, he knew she was someone he wanted to keep by his side for a very long time. Nancy had come up with the idea to have a 'best friend super cool handshake.' She taught it to Jonathan, who loved it a lot. And when they showed it off to their mothers, they loved it as well.
Age 8
"I bet you have cooties from hanging out with that girl!"
Scott yelled at Jonathan. Of course, Jonathan thought that was stupid, he knew he couldn't get 'cooties' from Nancy.
"Scott, your face gives off cooties." Jonathan said under his breath in reply.
"Huh? Got something to say Byers?" Suddenly the bully was getting closer to Jonathan, slowly beginning to indeed worry the boy. Perhaps a black eye or whatever Scott was going to do to him, wouldn't hurt too much?
"Back off you loser!"
Jonathan lifted his head to see who had spoken up. There came Nancy Wheeler walking over to Scott and him.
"Aw, look who's come to save her pee wee little best friend!" Is all Scott could say before the girl had slapped him across the face and mumbled the insult, "Mouth breather."
Jonathan smiled and walk away from the bully on the ground with his best friend by his side.
Age 13
The two teenagers lay on Nancy's floor listening to music. They had both had pretty stressful days, and whenever things just seemed to be going down they'd spend about an hour doing this. Just being next to each other and listening to songs, perhaps inserting some random talking time to time. It just seemed to calm them.
"This song's good." Jonathan told her.
"Ohh yeah, I never can remember how it goes but when it actually plays I can remember everything about the song..." She smiles at Jonathan, causing him to grin. He nods his head along to the beat and she giggles watching him.
"So Nancy, about that school dance..." Jonathan began saying once the song had ended
"It's so dumb, isn't it? There's no point in it except for the school to make money, which they won't even spend on important things, mind you." Nancy replied instantly.
Jonathan admired her being so bold as she spoke. She left him in awe, how any other girl would've been so excited over a dance, but not Nancy Wheeler.
"Do you only think that because you haven't been asked yet?" Jonathan asked her while smirking. This caused the girl to pick up the nearest pillow and chuck it at Jonathan.
"Excuse me, but I don't see a line of the finest woman in the town begging to ask you to the dance!" She said crossing her arms. "And for your information, Barb told me she heard some girls saying that they heard Steve Harrington was going to ask me to the dance!"
Jonathan's eyes widen, just a small bit. "And how does that make you feel?"
"Still think the dance is stupid." Nancy says before gasping, "I love this song!"
