This is a spin off of the 2nd chapter of Silent Night of if Mr. Ambrose gave Lilly something else rather than a mere present (Though I would still say that the present is still very important). Anyways, go check out the original version!

Enjoy!!

Rikkard Ambrose

"No. I came here to think." I murmured into her soft, brown hair, still clutching her in my arms. Apprehensively, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small box, one that would fit into the palm of my hand. Carefully placing it on the desk in front of her, I debated whether I should take it back and pretend this never happened or continue. "About this."

It seems I have decided to continue.

She reached out and gingerly took the box into her hands. Looking at me with a puzzled face, she queried, "This little thing?"

"Yes."

"Must be pretty important."

"Yes," I replied, watching her turn the box and inspecting it curiously.

"What is it for?"

A ghost of a smile reached my lips, though I quickly hid it before she could see it. "For someone important."

"Oh," she said dejectedly, "then I should give it back to you."

I was surprised. I had thought she would badger me until the world ended into telling her who it was for. "No need."

"Why? If it's for someone important, then I shouldn't bother you anymore and you need it back and-"

Shushing her with a single placement of my finger on her lips, I explained, "Because it's for you."

Her chocolate colored eyes widened and look at me with confusion. Reaching her hand up to mine, she pushed my hand away and said, "You bought something?"

"Yes."

"For me...?"

"Yes."

"But why? I'm nobody important..."

"Open it," I commanded, gesturing to the box in her hands. And so she did, while I stood there watching her reaction to the object inside.

Lilly Linton

"Open it."

I looked at him once more and then back down at the box in my hands. I tried to open it, but it wouldn't. Glaring at it, I once more tried to pry it open with my fingers. After a couple seconds- or maybe minutes- of it not opening, I huffed, "You stupid box! Open up! What's the magic words? Ah! OPEN SESAME!!"

Still it wouldn't open. So much for magic words.

"Have you been drinking?"

I narrowed my eyes at Mr. Ambrose. "What makes you think that? You son of a bachelor!"

"Language, Miss Linton."

"What makes you think that? You son of a bachelor, SIR!" I seethed, making sure to emphasize on the 'sir'.

"Adequate," he said, plucking the box out of my hands. "But your so called insult won't be correct in due time."

I looked at him with incredulity. I didn't get it. I continued to stare, as he dropped down onto his knee, right on the office floor.

"Will you," he started, opening the box in one swift motion, revealing a....

Huh? A ring? Though I must admit it does catch my eyes, how dare he does this before me!

"Marry me?" he finished at the same time I flat out said, "No."

I turned around to face the wall and crossed my arms across my chest. Like a five year old, who was denied his chocolate, I pouted.

"Why?" he growled, as he spun me around to face him.

"Because, you didn't let me have time to do this!" I shouted, thanking God that no one was working today, as I wriggled out of his clasp. I dropped to my knee like he did a few moments before. Whipping out a box from my pocket, I opened it, this time without any struggle.

"Will you marry me?" I countered.

"No."

I stared at him like he grew a second head. "Fine," I stormed and spun around to walk to the door.

Right before I reached the door, Mr. Ambrose pulled me back into his warm, strong embrace. "I jest," he whispered into my ear.

"Ha! You? Jesting? You just didn't want a woman proposing to you," I sneered back.

"Yes."

"Yes? Yes, that you didn't want a woman to propose to you, a man?"

"Yes, I will marry you."

I didn't know what to say back, so I just laid back into his chest and snuggled.

"What are you doing?"

"Snuggling," I replied, breathing in the clean smell that only belonged to him.

"Why do you want to waste energy doing that?" he asked, despite his actions saying otherwise and pulling me even closer.

Smiling, I stood on my tiptoes and pecked his lips. Blood rose straight up to my face, turning it bright red, but I still enjoyed it. Today was probably the best day of my life.

Eh, actually I think the day I discovered solid chocolate was better.

Laughing at my own thoughts caused Mr. Ambrose, or should I call him Rikkard or DICK now that we were engaged, to look at me weirdly. But still, he bent his head down and pecked my lips back. Let's just say neither of us left the office for a really long time.

How was it? This is my shortest chapter ever, and I'm sorry for that. But I hoped you enjoyed it!! \(^-^)/

Also, I just found out that Dalgliesh meant 'green field'. I totally thought that it meant something sinister and definitely not 'green field'. (」OロO)」

Do you think I should continue to write oneshots or rewrite scenes from the actual story but in Mr. Ambrose's POV? Which one would you like?
