The story begins before Jesus was introduced to the world.

Before Jesus there were 7 sorcerers, powerful women that granted wishes to those that deserved them. When a soul would pass, they were reincarnated, and born again with the life they always dreamed of, the one they needed. The space just before reincarnation was Heaven.

Those evil souls that walked among the good were never reborn. Life never again greeted them, yet they were well aware of themselves. They existed in nothingness, as if they did not exist in any other realm. This was Hell.

These women knew that pure power could be corrupted, so they created their own punishment system. Purgatory. Once a sorcerer sinned, or did wrong by the souls below, they were banished forever to wherever they deserved to be.

Jesus came during the Roman era. He preached of a single God, a male, an omniscient entity. Many believed. This hurt the women that truly ruled. Those that did not believe ruined their chances at Heaven.

The women decided that the ungrateful humans did not deserve their love, or even really want it. They turned against the people, stopped the reincarnation process and left those souls without a place, and named themselves the Witches of Nox. Never again would they be so nice.

The Witches of Nox then separated, each taking a portion of the world as their own domain. The ruling powers did well. When the humans did something their witch did not like, floods would wash them away, and new humans would begin again. Reincarnation was saved for the few humans that showed advanced power, humans that could replace a witch, if ever she was killed.

One witch, the one that control what is now Antarctica, believed that no one should replace her. The human females she saved were spared for their bodies. Every 200 years, the witch transfered her essence into the new body, guaranteeing her eternal rule.

In 1692, the Salem Witch Trials struck Massachusetts. That land and its surrounding colonies belonged to the only witch that still held love for the humans, if only enough to share for a few.

She was known for taking powerful little girls from their homes and raising them to be a witch like herself. As she collected children, their combined powers became known, and many were hanged or burned at the stake.

This witch became the most cold hearted of them all. She punished Massachusetts greatly, by unleashing the lost spirits of olde unto them. The souls that had belonged to nothingness, the souls from Hell, had become shells of who they used to be. Disgruntled, ugly, horrible things they were. Pure evil, and without a heart.

They developed the name "daimens," which soon became "demons," with the influence of the Bible and this "one true God."

The witch was very happy with the outcome of unleashing the demons upon the world. The humans feared sleeping at night, they prayed to be released of the torture, they were "so sorry about killing innocent women."

Just to make it worse, the witch snatched the first son of the pastor of Massachusetts, and made him to rule Hell, just as the Bible described it. Years and years and years torturing his family, and every person he once knew drove him mad, and he embraced his punishment. He became the Lucifer we know today.

As time went on and lands became more religious, many methods were developed to keep the demons away when they came. Many methods, that worked.

The Witches of Nox, led by the mother of demons and Lucifer himself, created new brand demons. The originals could not enter homes without proper welcome, could not possess without a proper welcome, could not take without a proper welcome. They were defeated by simple prayers and held by simple markings. They were weak and bound by standards easily exploited.

The witches began experimenting. How to break the rules? They tried stealing souls that hadn't been reborn, taking them from their frozen Heaven state. It wasn't until 1827 that the witches succeeded and created the second generation of demons.

These demons had incredible mind powers, able to control without possessing; they were stronger than any human, and able to override the part of the brain that says "No." These creatures could live forever, if no one ever killed them, and they were much too fast to be caught. With humanoid forms and features, they easily matched their surroundings.

Still, they were demons. No one could enter a dwelling without an invite, and they could still be held by the symbols.

Years passed however, and the witch of essence transference noticed the demons began to revert to their true forms, with black eyes and veiny skin.

To fight this, the witches ran tests. The difference between the first demons and these were that the new demons weren't entirely demons, barely demons, half demons, still a little human.

It was that humanity that allowed the new demons the advantages they had. But without proper care, all could be lost and demons would become of the demons.

At the time, the only way to get something was to take it, so the witches would take a pure human and sacrifice their blood to the demons twice a month, keeping them as close to human as possible.

But as the Witches of Nox died out and were replaced by smarter and more powerful witches --- save the one that changed bodies --- new knowledge found them. It was not the sacrifice nor the blood that kept the demons in human form. It was the power that the blood held, the mana.

Mana was known to be found only in sacred rocks and stones, but this new information changed everything. Where else could mana be coming from, and why did it keep the new demons stable?

Their questions were answered in time, but their power was draining quickly, after every new bread of demon was brought to life. In a rash decision to save them all, the new Witches of Nox combined their power into one vessel, bound her to Earth, and gave Lucifer the command to make sure she one day woke up and continued the work the witches had started. Her name was Nix, and she walks among us.

All of this --- the witches, the betrayal, the reincarnation, the new demons, and the mana found in blood --- it birthed the creatures we know. The bloodsuckers, the murderers, the psychic night crawlers.

The vampires.
