"I don't understand the question," I mumbled.

Lucifer sighed deep. "God, Natalie, you are Nix."

I laughed sarcastically. "Uh, yeah, shut the fuck up, Luci."

She rolled her eyes and chains that came from nowhere held Kieran at the wrists and neck. He was basically chained to the floor. I'd seen this before, too. I stepped beside him and held hid hand.

"Listen to me, Natalie," she said as she turned and walked back to her throne. "I've tracked you since I was little older than 13. Trust me, with my skill, I am not gonna get this wrong. And what do you think you are, if not a Goddess? What other humans have psychic abilities like yours?"

"That guy from the Flash," I responded quickly. "Now, release my boyfriend."

"I can't, I told you I needed his soul. The longer he stays down here, the quicker his soul degenerates, just saying."

"Why do you need him? You said it wasn't personal!"

She shrugged. "I kinda lied. Bite me. I think, watching him become demon will finally wake you up, Nix. Heartbreak is what opens our eyes, trust me, I would know."

"So what if he turns? I can find his soul down here and return it anyway." She was right about him turning faster. He said nothing this whole time, only bowed in defeat and kept his head to the pavement.

"Riiiiight. So I have a backup plan. You know that guy over there?" She nodded to a cage a few spaces down. It was a typical guy, tall, a little muscular under his grey shirt, with long and frizzy hair, and big lips. He looked scared.

"No."

"His name is Hunter Adelle. He and Kourtney have been... Important to each other for two years now. He died a couple years ago, and to keep him alive, she has promised to help me 'find my mom.' "

I scoffed at that. "Kourtney wouldn't make deals with the devil."

"She didn't. She made a deal with a friend that had some skills. I go by more than just Lucifer up there."

I figured Lucifer was saying Kourtney was gonna do something bad if I didn't submit. But how bad could it be?

"Kourtney, for the next 5 hours, belongs to me, and will do whatever I say. That means if I tell her to get rid of everyone who walked you to my elevator, she will."

"Lady, I am not Nix. Get this shit off my boyfriend, give us the pieces of his soul, and we'll go. Heck, I'll even help you find the real Nix." I hoped that would satisfy her weird needs for now.

She sighed again. "Set him free yourself. If that's really what you want to do."

That was all I needed. I faced Kieran, and kneeled down to his level. My tights would be ripped after this.

"I will say this!" Lucifer cut in. "The moment you break a chain will be the moment I send Kourtney to lower the vamp count on Earth."

"They can handle themselves." I tugged at Kieran's left wrist chain a few times but it was too strong and I was too weak. I didn't want to use my powers down here. It would give that girl the wrong idea, and I didn't quite know how to work them. But nothing was more important than Kieran right now.

I focused all my energies on the chain and willed it to break. Instead, the spaced around myself and Kieran exploded in a cloud of dust. When it settled, I was yards from him.

His eyes were blacker than ever, and the veins ran from his eyes, some up his arms, and across his neck. His fangs were out and gleamed ominously in the darkness of the space. My Kieran Kitty. He was gone.
