They decided to go to the mall after hearing the Sunday mass, Maine noticed RJ had been quiet since he picked her up this morning. As he turned off the engine of his car, Maine turned to him and held his hand.
"Honey, are you okay? You want to talk about it?"
He heaved a sigh, "Si Mama kasi, medyo napapadalas ang pag inom niya. Sa bahay lang naman siya umiinom pero I often see her sprawled on the couch, lasing na lasing. Last night, lasing din siya pero nakausap ko siya and I was able to ask her kung anong problema. Si Papa daw di na daw umuuwi. Meng, ang akala ko nasa business trip si Papa kaya siya palaging wala sa bahay. Yun pala, 3 months na siyang di umuuwi at di tumatawag kay Mama."
"Oh my, RJ, I'm sorry. Did you try calling your Papa?"
He shook his head, "Di ko siya ma contact, nag change ata ng number."
Maine wanted to comfort RJ, she pulled him for a hug and in an instant, he was crying. Di ma imagine ni Maine ang sobrang sakit na dinadala ni RJ, napapaiyak na rin siya.
"Honey, ssshh."
"Hon, di kona alam ang gagawin. Awang awa ako sa nanay ko. Seeing her like that is just unbearable for me, I don't know how to comfort her. Sana andito sila Tita Lillian at Tita Neena, pero both are out of the country rin with Je and Sam. Meng---"
RJ was sobbing uncontrollably, Maine tried rubbing his back and whispering comforting words.
"RJ, Babe, please. Tahan na, please nahihirapan kanang huminga. Honey, look at me. Sabi mo nga, wala sila Tita Lillian at Tita Neena. You're all she has right now. At least talk to her, just you being with her would give enough comfort for her. At ako, andito lang ako para sa'yo."
Then his phone rang, his mother was calling. He composed himself before answering the call.
"Hello, Mama?"
"RJ, anak. Your Tita Sol is inviting me to go with her sa El Nido, ngayon na flight namin. Sorry I forgot to tell you about it. I'll be gone for a week. Are you going to be okay?"
"Yes, Mama, I will be okay. But I'm going to miss you, though. Mag enjoy po kayo, Ma. And please say hi to Tita Sol. Mag iingat po kayo, Mama, please wag po kayo uminom doon ha?"
"Opo, my love. Pasensiya kana sa behavior ko lately, pero I promise di ako iinom doon. Tawagan mo ako palagi ha? Doon ka nalang muna sa condo Makati. And please eat real food, RJ, kahit sa labas kana kumain so you won't have to cook."
"Okay po, Ma. Don't worry about me. You have a safe flight, call me when you get to El Nido. You take care, Mama. I love you, too." He ended the call.
"Si Mama, papunta daw sila ng sister niya sa El Nido. Di munako uuwi ng Laguna, Hon, doon munako sa condo namin sa Makati while Mom is away."
"Okay, sige. Kailangan ba natin kumuha ng mga gamit mo sa Laguna?"
"Hindi na, meron akong mga gamit dun sa condo. Kelangan ko lang bumili ng mga toiletries."
"I see. Tamang tama bili nalang tayo dito. How are you feeling?"
"I feel better now, Hon, thank you for listening and for understanding. Tara na?"

After having lunch, they decided to do a little shopping. After they bought their stuff, they went to get some ice cream sundae. As they were talking while waiting in line, RJ heard a familiar voice behind him. When he turned, he saw his Papa carrying a 5 year old girl version of him. Both were too shocked to move. RJ came to his senses when his eyes turned to look at the woman clutching at his father's arm. Richard, Sr was the first one to speak, "RJ, anak." Then RJ saw red, he grabbed Maine by the arm and dragged her out of the ice cream store. "RJ, sandali." His father called out to him.
"Don't you fucking dare come near me!" He shouted at his father, his loud voice and cursing somehow caught the attention of the people around them. Mr. Faulkerson decided to stop running after his son, who seemed to have disappeared from his sight right away.

At the mall's parking lot, inside RJ's car...
"Putangina niya! Kaya pala di na umuuwi ang tarantadong yun may ibang pamilya siya. Did you see the little girl he was holding, Meng? Shit, she looked a lot like me when I was her age. May kapatid ako, nagkaanak siya sa ibang babae. Ano?! Nagsawa na siya kay Mama kaya naghanap siya ng iba. And the woman looked familiar, Maine, kasama niya yata yun sa board ng kumpanya. Putangina! After all the years my mother spent just taking care of him, of us. Di pa siya nakukuntento dun?"
Paulit ulit na hinahampas ni RJ ang manibela ng kotse habang minumura ang tatay niya at umiiyak. Napapaiyak na rin si Maine, she didn't know how to comfort him. Hinagod hagod niya ang likod ni RJ because he seemed to be out of breath from all the crying and shouting.
"Hon, please, wag masyado. You're scaring me, hindi kana halos makahinga. Here, inom ka muna. Ako na mag drive, umuwi na tayo okay? Baby, I'm sorry."
She could only hug him, hold him until he calmed down and then they were off to the Faulkersons' Makati condo.

When they arrived at the condo...
"Hon, I'm sorry you had to see that."
"RJ, you don't have to apologize to me."
"Pwede mo bakong samahan dito? Ayokong mag isa dito, Meng. Please?"
"Kailangan kong magpaalam kila Tatay, I have to talk to them about it. Sana payagan nila ako. Okay lang ba sabihin ko sa kanila yung nangyari?"
"Okay lang, sige. You go call them. Thank you, Honey."
Maine went out to the living room, called her father to ask for his permission if she could accompany RJ. She told them about what happened earlier at the mall. At first they hesitated and they weren't comfortable at the situation that RJ and Maine would be by themselves. But after giving it a lot of thought, they figured RJ shouldn't really be left alone for now. They finally allowed Maine to stay with RJ after repeatedly reminding her to keep in touch with them so they wouldn't worry about her. She went back to RJ, who was fixing his stuff inside his bedroom. She backhugged him, her hand drawing circles on his belly. RJ turned and asked if her parents permitted her to stay with him, he let out a sigh of relief when she said yes.
"Hon, I know this is too much to ask. Pero can you stay with me here?" She placed her palm on his left cheek, her thumb touching his lone dimple then nodded.
"Thank you. Please wag mokong iwan, Meng."
"Andito lang ako, RJ. I will never leave you. I love you."
RJ hugged her tight and they stayed like that for about a minute or two. Maine pulled from his embrace and suggested they take a nap and would wake up before dinner. They were lying on the bed with RJ hugging her by the waist, his head on her chest.
