Fastforward to SemBreak...
Jerald invited Maine and her friends to their resthouse in Tagaytay for a 3-day stay. Of course, Sam and RJ would be there too. After almost 2 hours on the road, they arrived at their destination. Maine and her friends were in awe at the view of the whole place.
"Ang ganda." Ruby whispered.
Then there was a lake. Then there were treehouses by the lake, simply breathtaking!
Je led them to the main house, huge main house, then to their designated rooms. Maine, Pat, and Val were sharing one room. Pia, Ruby, and Pauleen shared the room next to Maine's. Ryan and Allan shared the room beside Jerald's. They prepared for a swim in the lake, they were coming down the massive stairs when they heard some ladies chitchatting and laughing from the living room. They saw 3 ladies, beautiful ladies, sitting by the couch, each holding a teacup. The lady wearing a jumpsuit stood up to meet them, welcoming them with a smile.
"Hello! You must be Jerald's friends. I'm Lillian Napoles, Jerald's mother. Welcome!" Val's jaw dropped and then whispered to Allan.
"Bakla anobayan, si future mother in law mas maganda pa sakin."
The kind lady continued, "By the way, these are my BFF's. The chinita beauty on the right is Rose Faulkerson, and the Jackie Lou Blanco lookalike right there is Neena Gogna, RJ and Sam's mothers." They all muttered a "good morning po" and then smiled awkwardly. The lady of the house led them to the dining room for brunch.
"Pababa na yung tatlo. Medyo natagalan lang, nagpapapogi ata sa mga loves nila." Mrs. Gogna said as she giggled.
"Sorry sobrang daldal ata namin we forgot to ask you your names. Please introduce yourselves." Mrs. Napoles said.
When Maine, Pat and Val introduced themselves, the 3 ladies smiled at them adoringly. Then Sam, RJ, and Jerald suddenly appeared in the room.
"Hello, our beautiful Mamas! Hi ulit, guys, heheh. Sorry napasarap yung paglalaro namin ng video games. You met our moms. Pasensiya na kayo, ngayon rin namin nalaman na andito sila." Sam said as he gave each of the ladies a kiss on their cheek.
"When Je told me he'd like to invite some friends here, he mentioned Val. So I assumed Pat and Maine would be coming too so I told them about it. We just like to meet you, because our boys just can't stop talking about you." Mrs. Napoles explained. And the boys automatically looked down in embarassment.
"Sige na, you must be hungry. Eat, young ones! Lill's embutido is a must try, and Neena's chicken curry is delicious. Wag kayong mahiya okay? Oh, and my seafood paella, my RJ's favorite." Mrs. Faulkerson cooed while RJ eyed his mother and muttered "Mama!" Just enough for his mother to hear. Then glanced at Maine shyly as she looked at him amusingly.
"And for our dessert, chocolate moist cupcake with peanut butter frosting. Gawa naming tatlo yan, Neena made the peanut butter frosting from scratch. I hope you like them." Mrs. Napoles happily said.
"Oh, and I heard from the boys rin na you all know how to cook, salit salitan daw kayo na nagdadala sa school everyday and you eat it over breakfast. I told them since di naman sila marunong magluto at nakikikain pa sila sa inyo hahahah, mag contribute nalang din sila sa pambili ng ingredients." Mrs. Gogna stated.
At masaya rin kami we get to share and eat breakfast with them. Actually, sila yung bumibili ng coffee para sa aming lahat po heheh."
Mrs. Napoles chuckled, "Mabuti naman kung ganun. Anyway, ano plano niyo today?"
"Swimming!" Je shouted, which earned a laugh from everyone.
"Ases, gusto mo lang makitang naka bikini si Val e." Sam teased him. Val blushed furiously, which earned her a teasing from Pauleen.
"If you're done na, you go ahead and enjoy. And behave. Samir! Ikaw ang pinakapanganay sa inyong tatlo, I am counting on you." Mrs. Gogna told Sam firmly, her son nodded at her with a wink and a smile.
Just when they were about to go to the lake, the rain started pouring hard. RJ told the group that it gets cold to swim in the lake when it's raining, it would be better to stay indoors and enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate. The group sadly agreed, then went back inside the house. They were about to go to the kitchen when they saw the 3 ladies again hovering over a balikbayan box full of old things. RJ panicked when he saw his mother looking sadly at some old crocheted doilies.
"Mama, what's wrong?" He asked, worry etched on his face.
"I totally forgot about these. Your Abuela Mending made these. You remember, RJ? Pero ngayon di kona alam kung anong panggagamitan ko dito, they're still in good condition so might as well donate them. But I just can't let go of them, you know?" Mrs. Faulkerson was on the verge of crying and RJ just didn't know what to do. Maine, seeing the devastating look on RJ's face, tried to approach the mother and son.
"Mrs. Faulkerson, Ma'am. I have a suggestion po, if okay lang. Uhm, we can save these doilies and make them into home decor. Baka po interested kayo." Maine looked at the doilies and was in awe at how it was intricately made by RJ's grandmother.
Mrs. Faulkerson's face lit up and smiled at Maine. "Really, Maine? How?"
Maine got her phone from her small bag and showed some pictures to Mrs. Faulkerson, Mrs. Napoles and Mrs. Gogna looked on.
"These are beautiful, Maine. Did you make these?" Mrs. Gogna asked, her eyes wide in awe.
"Opo. Sa bahay po namin sa Bulacan ang mga yan." Maine explained.
"Yung mga lamps sa bahay niyo, Maine, are made out of those... Doilies, tama ba ko?" Pia was unsure of what it was called. Maine nodded at her with a smile.
"Ma'am..."
"Please, call me Tita Rose, Maine."
Maine glanced at RJ nervously, "Uhm, Tita Rose. The first thing that we need to do is wash all the doilies. Kayo po ang bahala if gusto niyo po na ganito yung kulay or pwede naman po natin i-dye to the color that you like po."
"Wow! Andami nito. Different sizes and shapes pa. Tell you what, half of these ida dye natin tapos yung other half gusto kong i-preserve yung color ng thread that my Mama used. They used to be white, pero naging yellowish na rin sa sobrang tagal na rin siguro." She looked at RJ, who smiled at her adoringly.
"Okay po. Saan po kaya tayo makakahanap ng fabric color?" Maine asked.
"Ah, Maine, pwede kami pumunta sa may palengke. Meron naman siguro dun." Je said.
"Kahit yung mumurahin lang, Je, pwede na yun. 2 packs for each color bilhin niyo, and get all the possible colors available. And kung merong hardware or any store na merong Elmer's glue, bili ka rin. And some balloons. Damihan mo heheh. And a paintbrush, tig isa tayo. Thank you, Je." Maine said with a wide grin. Sam, Je, and RJ went to the market.
"Okay, now we wash these beautiful works of art..." Mrs. Gogna said.
"Naku! Wag napo kayo, mga Titas. Kami napo ang bahala maglaba nga mga ito. Do we need to dry them before we could dye them, Maine?" Pat asked.
"No need, Pat. Kailangan lang natin pigain ng maigi. Kami napo bahala dito, Titas. Naalikabukan lang po ang mga ito, di kailangan ng matinding kusutan." Maine explained.
Maine and her friends had fun washing the doilies by the laundry area, Ryan and Allan also helped out.
By the time they were finished, they spotted the mothers and sons talking in the living room. They stopped when they saw the group enter.
"Isampay lang po natin ng mga 30 minutes just to be sure na wala nang nagdi drip na water. Je, nabili niyo ba ang mga kailangan?" Je handed her the paper bag, she pulled out a huge bottle of Elmer's glue.
"Isang litro talaga, Je? Hahahah"
"Eh sabi mo damihan ko pero medyo mahal kung yung maliliit na bote ang bibilhin namin, so yan nalang sabi ni Sam. Magagamit din yan in the future kung in denial pa rin kayo ni Papi RJ na gusto niyo ang isa't-isa, ipapaligo namin sa inyo yan para magkakadikit na kayo. Hahahahah"
"Woy, Je! Ikaw talaga. Tita Lill oh!" Payb year old RJ pouted, his ears a few shades of crimson.
"Kayo talaga. Mag merienda na muna tayo bago magtrabaho. Who wants champorado?" Mrs. Gogna asked. The young ones grinned widely as they went to the dining room.
When they finished merienda, they proceeded to the dirty kitchen for the dying process. The 3 ladies got to choose the color that they liked and Maine gladly indulged them. When the doilies were dyed and dried. Maine instructed the boys to inflate the balloons. At dahil wais sila, gumamit sila ng air pump hahahah. Maine mixed the glue mixture needed for the doilies to stay in shape. The girls were following Maine's instructions on sticking the doilies onto the balloons, the boys decided to join in the fun. When they were done, Maine told everyone their projects needed to dry up completely. Good thing the rain had stopped and the sun had come out. The projects were completely dried after sunset. They gave Mrs. Napoles, Mrs. Gogna, and Mrs. Faulkerson the honor to pop the balloons. The boys then installed a lightbulb on each of the bigger projects, Maine put some tea lights on the smaller ones.
"Lill, we could put these on the treehouses!" Mrs. Faulkerson exclaimed, Mrs. Gogna nodded in agreement. Mrs. Faulkerson then turned to Maine, "Hija, thank you! I have learned a lot from you and about you today. Thank you for saving my Mama's doilies. I am so happy, I have new house decors!" Everybody applauded Maine for a job well done.
After dinner, they set up a bonfire by the lake. They've already set up the lamps on each of the treehouses. Je was strumming his guitar, Allan was telling the funniest jokes. Everyone truly had fun, including Sam, RJ, and Je's moms. RJ approached Maine, who he found sitting alone by the big rock.
"Um, Maine?"
"RJ..."
"Thank you, for today. Thank you talaga."
"You're welcome, RJ. I'm happy to help."
