Chapter 23
Sansia hurried after Raydon. He had been trying so hard not to show what he had been turning into and now it was out there for everyone to see. The wolf in Raydon was not allowing itself to be kept a secret.
"Raydon," Sansia said running behind him and laying a hand on his shoulder. The feel of his skin sent shivers through his body. She drew back her hand swiftly.
"Don't look at me," Raydon said.
"Are you so vain that you can't live with the idea that you've lost your perfect looks?" Sansia asked.
"I looked perfect?" Raydon couldn't resist asking.
"You're so full of yourself."
"Strangely enough that's no longer true, I seem to be full of something or someone else too," Raydon responded. "I have to take Jameson to the sick bay; he's not healing very quickly."
"Look at me," Sansia insisted.
Raydon turned around.
"What do I look like?" He asked sadly. He hadn't had a chance to see himself in a mirror but if he was anything like that creature outside he was not going to be happy with what he saw.
"Horrible," Sansia said. "I can barely stand to look at you."
Raydon inhaled a deep breath and then released it.
"I won't force you to," he said and turning on his heels he walked away. Sansia followed him into the first aid room.
"Now you can look for yourself, although I'm not sure I would if I were you," Sansia said going over to the table where Raydon had laid the ailing wolf.
"Hi buddy, how are you doing?" She asked.
Jameson growled softly in response and licked her hand.
Raydon strolled over to the medicine cabinet and caught a glimpse of himself in a piece of the remaining glass. He squinted his eyes as a dark haired, young man stared back at him through piercing grey eyes.
"I know right?" Sansia said. "Pretty ugly."
"Funny," Raydon muttered.
He ran his hand across his smooth cheek, he had never been much of a hairy guy, but perhaps all of that would be changing at some time in the future; for now he was satisfied that we was back to himself. He wasn't even going to ask himself why he had turned back when the change seemed so permanent for everyone else.
"I know what you're going through is scary Raydon..." Sansia began.
"I'm not scared."
"Right, nothing ever scares the great Raydon Payne."
"I didn't say that," Raydon protested.
"But that's what you want everyone to believe," Sansia shot back.
If he was hoping to tell her that he had feelings for her, this conversation was definitely not going well.
"Don't you think it's time you started to talk about what's happening to you?" Sansia asked.
"I don't know what's happening to me," Raydon responded.
Sansia strolled over to where Raydon was standing and slipped her hand into his.
"What's happening to you scares me," she admitted. "And I need to know what's going on."
"I would never hurt you," Raydon said earnestly.
