I was in charge

The weeks passes by happily. Everyday Erin, Ferb, and I would build something new while Candace wathed and made snacks. Everyday we would sing. Ferb and I learned guitar even Candace joined in sometimes. Everyday we got closer, expesially Erin and Ferb.

I wasn't surprised when Ferb and Erin were always volenterring to go get supplies together. They thoght I didn't see the lingering glances or the blushes when their hands touched. I did, and I was okay with it, Erin was my friend and Ferb my brother, they were good together.

The days flew by and before I knew it it was mid-July. Ferb and I were going over the blueprints for a treehouse for Candace. She and Mom were talking in the other room.

"I have to run to the store, so your in charge Candace." Mom said grabing her keys and pocketbook. "Make sure you brothers don't do anything dangrous."

"Okay, don't worry." Candace replied looking at the two of us. With that Mom left.

A few minutes later there was a knock at the door. I got up and opened it to see Erin with her familiar tool box.

"Hey, *cough* what do you want to do today *cough**cough*?" She asked.

"Come on in, are you okay?" I asked as she coughed again.

"Yeah, I just have something in my throat *cough*." She said looking over the plans. After a few minutes she looked up sayin, " I know what were going to do to*cough*day."

"Are you sure you're okay?" Candace asked. Erin just nodded.

We went to work with Candace opserving from a launchair. Everything went smoothly, dispite a few splinter and coughs. After a while we all started singing Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Constrution seemed to be sped up and soon we were on the last coat of paint.

I was putting in some furniture, Ferb was cleaning up and Erin was finishing the roof. She must have had a coughing fit and slipped, I don't know, Ididn't see. I only looked up when Candace called "Erin!" and then it was only in time to see her fall.

Time was in slow motion and all of us were frozen, except Erin, she was falling victem to the laws of gravity. Then it was over and she was sprawlled on the ground, not moving.

I hurried down to her and checked her pulse. Dispite my fears it was there she was okay, just knocked out. Oh, and a quickly growing bruise on her left arm. Ferb knelt down next to me as sirens grew loud. Candace must have called for an ambulance.

We were in the hospital waiting room with Mom and Erin's parents who were promptly called upon arrival. Candace was sitting in the corner mumbling "it's my fault" over and over. Ferb and I  went to her.

"It's not your fault it was an accident." Ferb reassured her.

"But it is, I was in charge, I shouldn't have let you do something so dangerous. I was in charge. I won't let you do anything like that anymore. I was in charge." She said not even looking at us.

Then the doctor finally came and took us to Erin's room. She was sitting up with a cast on her arm and bandage around her head.

"She's fine. I fractured left arm, and a nasty bruise to the head, but other than that..." The doctor said then looking at her parents, "her, ah, condition seems to have gotten worse. We are running out of time for discussion." Her parents nodded and Erin looked down.

"Condition? What condition?" Ferb asked anxiously looking at Erin.

"Didn't she tell you?" Erin's mother asked, then seeing our blank expressions countinued,"Erin, well, she has this, this..."

"Tumor, it's a tumor in my throught." Erin said plainly.

It took a minute to sink in then Ferb, Candace, and I burst out, "A TUMOR? But, but how? In you throught? But you sing so well."

"You were singing? That's why it's so agrivated. We told you to take it easy." Her dad said.

"Can't you have it taked out?" Ferb asked.

"I could but it's really big and the surgery is dangerous. I could permanetly lose my voice or maybe die." Erin said.

The room was quiet and then Erin looked up at me and Ferb and said, "Let's just forget it, okay?" And we did for a while. Erin stayed in the hospital for a day then she was out and life returned to the life that we had enjoyed before, mostly. Candace kept her promise and from then on didn't help us anymore, instead she was focused on busting us. We still sang, but Ferb made sure that Erin didn't over do it. For a while life was good again.
