Goodbye

"So that's it. That's everything, why Ferb is quiet, why we sing, why Candace tries to bust us, even why we build something everyday." I said looking around my friends. Surprisingly they let me get through the whole story without interrupting me and they honestly seemed interested, even Buford.

While they tried to process all that I had told them I looked over to the subject of the story. Ferb was still staring absently at his tools. Before I knew what was happening I started speaking again. I knew Ferb wouldn't like me telling them all of this, but I already told them this much I might as well tell the rest. "After the funneral Erin's parents moved away, we never saw them again. Then our parents moved us here saying a change of seanery would do us good, it didn't help much though. I became more talkative to make up for the fact that Ferb didn't say a word. We went through most of the school year like normal kids and didn't build anything, any time Ferb even looked at a tool he would get this far off look in his eyes remembering her."

They were confused again and kept glancing back at Ferb. With a sigh I continued. "It was late May and we only had a couple more days of school left when we got a package in the mail. It was addressed to me and Ferb from somewhere in Maine. When we opened it there was an object wrapped in brown paper with a tag on it that said 'to Ferb', some rolled up papers, and a letter. I opened the letter and all it said was 'Carpe Diem'. I knew it was from her parents, the papers turned out to be some blueprints of crazy things like giant rollercoasters and spaceships, they were all drawn in her hand. The object for Ferb was a tool box, Erin's toolbox, the same one she brought everyday to use when building. Inside the toolbox was another envalope adressed to me. Inside I found the codes to a bank account made in my name and a hand written note on the bottom reading 'building funds'. Every month a generous amount of money is placed in it by her parents to use for supplies for our creations."

"Why would they do that?" Buford asked apparently surprised someone would waste so much money on the inventions of two kids they had only known for a couple of months.

"Obviously," Isabella told him, "they thought they could keep their daughter's spirit alive if they helped her friends do what she loved, in this case building. It is actually very sweet, the whole thing is, sad but sweet."

We all were silent them thinking about the girl they never met but yet somehow affected them and me thinking about the girl I knew for much to short of a time yet was permanently changed by.

After a minute Baljeet spoke up. "When did Ferb start talking again?"

"In a few days, the building helped. Until school was over we kept it all pretty simple, but we made sure to build something everyday after we got that package. He still is mostly silent and I don't think he'll ever change, Erin took something from him when she died but I'll never regret her friendship. Even after she died it was our inventions that made you all take notice of us and led to our friendship."

For the rest of the day we sat under a tree making small talk. Every so often they asked me about Erin, I would tell them what I could. Ferb never left the garage.

"We have to get going now Phinease." Isabella said as the three of them got up to leave. I looked around realizing that the street lights were starting to come on and wave a quick goodbye to them. They each said goodbyes to Ferb who just barley nodded in recognition then they left.

Looking up at the early stars I felt oddly at peace. Maybe all that shrink talk of getting things off you chest is true. I stared at the constellation of the seven sisters, remembering when we stayed up all night what seemed like a lifetime ago when you tried to teach us the constellations. You always did like the story of the seven sisters, Orion, and Scorpio.

I heard mom call me in and with one last look at the stars I thought, "Goodbye Erin." I must have been more tiered than I thought because I could have sworn I heard her say goodbye to me.

That's the end, there ain't know more. Thank you to whoever stuck with this story to the end. Also, a million thanks to anyone that commented. Keep commenting, tell me what you think of the ending and if you have any suggestions.

For any of you that don't know the constellations there are many different stories to them. The one that Erin told Phinease and Ferb was that there were seven beautiful sisters with whom the hunter, Orion, fell in love. The gods (greek gods if you didn't know) did not approve of this and put the sisters in the sky out of Orions reach. This made Orion mad and he started causing trouble and to make it worse he was the best hunter and no one could beat him. So the gods did what any god would do, the created Scorpio the giant scorpion to kill Orion. There was a big fight, Scorpio won. Then they were all put in the sky. This is why in the constellations Orion is chasing after the seven sisters but never catching them and Scorpio is on the other side of the sky so that he and Orion would never meet and wouldn't fight.

Thanks again! Comment please. :)
