I was woken to the sound of Katniss' screams and shouts of, "Run! Run the fog is poison!"
I was upright in seconds, years of nightmares preparing me for the kickstart of adrenaline immediately after sleep.
"Come on, come on, come on!" Finnick chanted, grabbing hold of my hand and tugging me away from the billowing clouds of fog that quickly followed us.
We ran downhill, stumbling over roots and rocks in the ground. Squeezing between tree branches and desperately trying to stay out of the reach of the eery fog.
I ran next to Katniss and watched as huge blisters bubbled on her swelling hand- further incentive to keep running even though we all panted heavily.
Peeta was taking the lead, using a large knife to slash at any branches in the way with Katniss and I close behind him. Finnick brought up the rear, keeping close watch on the fog that was slowly gaining on us. We had to make several sharp turns to avoid the fog from touching our skins.
Finnick and I soon overtook Katniss and Peeta, clearing the path for the slower couple. The sound of Katniss's screams however, stopped us both in our tracks. We watched as Katniss was almost enveloped in the fog before Peeta came to her rescue, both of them beginning to blister as a result. I ran to Katniss and threw her arm over my shoulder, lifting her onto her feet and dragging her away from the immediate danger. Finnick did the same for Peeta before taking the lead and running as best as he could from the fog. I followed after him, Katniss hanging limply at my side.
The fog closed in even more, forcing me to let the fog touch my skin in an effort to protect Katniss. My skin began to burn viciously. I screamed out in pain and saw Finnick stop in front of me.
"Go! Go!" I yelled, my skin stinging harshly as it blistered.
The torn look in his eyes was clear in the few moments of hesitation before he continued running with Peeta.
In our blind panic we hadn't noticed the absence of ground in front of us. As a result we plummeted down a steep hill, crashing through the undergrowth before coming to a slow stop at the bottom of the hill.
Darkness was clouding my sight- I must have hit my head during the fall down. But I could still see the giant cloud of fog still gliding toward us. With no energy left I slumped backwards, excepting the fact that we were all going to die. As the next few moments passed with an absence of pain and death, I sat up again and watched the fog hit an invisible wall, rising up into the sky before vanishing into thin air. I breathed a sigh of relief before the pain of the blisters and swelling dragged me into unconsciousness.
Hey everyone...
AGH ITS A ZOMBIE!
Nope- it's just me, I've risen from the dead and I am back to write a few more chapters. I'm so sorry for the eternity long hiatus, I just didn't have any motivation to write and I've been SUPER busy with school work. However, I am here now and I hope these two quick updates can make up for it, with more coming soon. Stay safe over the Christmas holidays my lovely readers and stay tuned for the next chapter. Please comment and vote it means so much to me to know that people are out there that are actually reading and liking my story. Love you all! xx
