I woke up to someone shaking me.

Blearily, I opens my eyes and the blurry human shape at the end of my cot came into view.

"Hi Ms. Perry." I said slurring a little from just waking up.

She laughed.

"It's ok Chasten. School got out 30 minutes ago. I tried to wake you up, but you were out. And I didn't want to move you, It might jiggle up your brain," She said with a chuckle at her own joke.

I shot up like a cannon.

"Say what now?" I said.

" School got it 30 minutes ago." She said, moving around her small office/ clinic. "You got a visitor though."

I narrowed my eyes.

"And who would that be?" I asked.

"Lo Oak came in and asked some questions about you." She said.

My head swiveled to follow her with my death glare.

"What did she ask?" I asked her, almost afraid to know.

"Just your address. She said that she had all your homework and she was going to drop it off."

Of course. The person who already looks at me weirdly just has to know my address. Well, this is just peachy.

I exhaled, every agitated. If she knew my address, she could bug me when ever she wants, question me and make my life more of a living hell. Come. on.

"Can I go now?" I asked, eager to get out of this clinical smelling place.

Ms. Perry nodded and waved me off. I took that as a yes and bolted out the door, almost forgetting my backpack.

I thought I heard her call me, something with bandage, but I walked on, ignoring her.

The halls were empty, all the students had gone home. The only people left were teachers, under a contract to stay till 4:30.

I power walked out to the door, trying to avoid being seen by anyone. It almost worked.

"Mr. Davidson! What are you still doing here?" A voice called out.

I stopped and turned around slowly, bracing myself for the slew of questions.

The man who called it to me would've been my history teacher, if I hadn't got knocked out. How he recognized me, I have no idea.

"Mr. Davidson, what are you still doing here?  It's four o'clock!" He said, surprised and a little bit annoyed.

"I... uh... just woke up sir." I said, feeling his suspicions wither up and die, a shoot of pity growing up in its place.

His face softened.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize  you just woke up. I had assumed that you already woke up and left."

I shrugged, glad that I didn't have to go into an embarrassing, lengthy tale of why I got knock out, working around my ability.

My history teacher suddenly a stuck out his hand. "Mr. Wilkerson, here to teach you the past." He said, while I shook his hand.

"Um, sir, if I may ask, how did you recognize the back of my head?" I asked.

Mr. Wilkerson's face contorted into a chuckle.

"I went to see you in the nurses office. Plus, you make easy to recognize since you have a white bangage wrapped around your head." He said. Mr. Wilkerson patted my back.

"Well, off you go, you don't want the parents to fret." He said, walking away.

I did an awkward wave and reached up to my head. He was right. I had a bandage wrapped around my head, I felt wetness bleeding through.

Sighing, I pushed open the doors to the school and walked out in to the dying heat of summer.

I passed the nice neighborhoods, the convenience stores and gas stations, the mediocre neighborhoods, the Liquor stores, until finally, I reached my house in the 'bad' part of town. Swinging around the corner, I stopped.

There, with here knees pulled up to her chest, and looking annoyed, was Lo Oak.

Waves of aggression and annoyance swallows me. I took a steadying  breath and walked toward certain death.

Lo heard me, and stood up, anger plain on her face.
