As we approached Sealfin, bioluminescent fish floated in the current, lighting the way to the city . The outskirts of the city was lined with a wall of shipwrecks, ancient buildings and treasure.
The actually city itself, was made out of tightly bound coral, they didn't have windows, just large open spaces that doubled as doorways. There were no streets, just open sea floors, mermaids and mermen alike swam freely all over. Orcas guided huge conch shell like carriages.
Mermaids greeted Talena as they swam by, she knew a lot of people down here. I also thought it would be really dark down here, but lights were everywhere, from glowing coral lamps, to bioluminescent fish.
The tall buildings slowly got shorter. The tall buildings turned to apartments, then the apartments to houses. Just before we went down the way for the houses, Talena took a left swimming to some smaller apartments. She pointed out an apartment on the bottom floor, made out of blue, white and purple coral. She explained that she lived with her roommate Cora.
Just as we approached the apartment a girl our age left their apartment. Talena called her over and we met her at the door of their apartment
"Hey Cora,"
"Hey Tal. Who are they?" Talena quickly introduced each of us, Cora started talking to Rai and Clem.
Cora's tail was dark navy blue lined with silver. But the color in the tail faded to clear just below the knees, and you could see her knees and legs until her feet, where it turned back until the normal tail. Her shirt was a black wrapping that showed her belly. A fishnet covered the black wrapping and reached the start of her tail and to her wrists.
Her hair was a dark brown that could be mistook fro black wavy at the ends, her eyes were the same dark brown. Her skin was tan, a change from everyone else pale complexion. Her hair was parted to the side, a starfish keeping it out of her face, other shells beaded into her hair as well.
"Lets go inside," Talena offered.
"Hey, whats the sea world without a newbie getting run over by an orca." Talena gave her a look.
"Fine, lets go inside."
The inside of their apartment was really pretty. Crystals hung from the ceiling with fishing line, illuminating the apartment. Pearls were all over, hidden in the coral walls. The small kitchen was made of clams and large round stones. The living room was bright and colorful, half finished bored games covered the floor, a couch and beanbag were made of bubbles. A small tv was on the wall with the popcorn and movies scattered around the base. A rug was made of soft sea anemones.
"Cozy," Rai said.
"Yeah, its a little messy, but we weren't expecting company.
"Can we see your rooms?" Clem asked.
"Of course! But you all should meet Jax first."
"Can we not?" Talena pleaded, Cora ignored her and walked down the short corridor and opened a dark blue door.
"My baby Jack-Jax!" Cora squealed, a little brindle piranha came swimming out of the door way, knocking over Cora and started to lick her face, begging for attention.
After Cora had calmed down her piranha, she let us pet him before showing us her room.
"Cora room had a bed on the back wall, the blankets made of light blue sea anemones. Shelfs lined the walls, half of them had books made of seaweed. The other half had things such as crystals, things from sunken ships, and things that glowed unnaturally. Piranha toys lined the floor, a small kennel at the foot of her bed.
"Im a bit of a collector," Cora said embarrassed.
"No way," Clem responded sarcastically.
"Quick come to my room before she starts talking about where she got them!" Talena said as she quickly swam out of the room.
"Hey! Those stories are very interesting ill have you know!"
"Lying to yourself isn't good for you." Talena replied.
"I think we both know who is lying." Cora responded as she swam into Talena's room, I followed after her.
Talena's room had deep purple walls, a big bed stood against the back wall, taking up most of the room. Next to the door was a vanity desk, random objects strewn around. There were many pictures all over the room, books on shelfs and a few trinkets here and there. Crystals and pearls hung from the ceiling, creating a beautiful light around the room.
As I was looking around the room, an alarm went through the house.
"Thats my cue."
"To do what exactly?" Clem asked curiously.
"I have to surface, I can only hold my breath for 15 hours tops."
"Only?" Jen replied sarcastically.
"Well come to, there isn't much left to see, so we can head up with you." Cora nodded her head in response, before grabbing Jax and swam to the surface, us following shortly behind.
Cora began to army crawl out of the sand and behind a rock, where as as soon as we hit the sand bank, our appearances went back to normal. Once we were safely in the sand, Talena sucked the water out of our clothes and hair, forming a bubble, before throwing it into the ocean.
Cora came out from behind the rock, her hair no longer had any shells, but her skin, hair, and eye color stayed the same. She wore black leggings with light grey converse and a thin sweater over her shirt. Next to her, her piranha was now a brindle bulldog. Jax took off running towards Talana, jumping and barking trying to get her attention.
"Where are we going now?" I asked.
"Well the places we've gone to had taken up longer then we had thought, so we should get to the palace."
"Cora, you need to come with us, Carters grandmother mind linked me while we were underwater and told me that if I see you, to tell you that you need to come to the dress fittings."
"Dress fittings? Do I have to?"
"Yes and Im going to make you were a dress."
"No."
"Definitely." Just as the words left her mouth Jax went running towards a seagull, the seagull flew off of the cliff and Jax didn't look like he was going to stop in time.
"Jax!" Cora yelled and started running after him, she jumped and midair her clothes shrunk into her skin, and black fur grew. When she hit the sand she was a black leopard. She ran after him, catching him right before he fell off of the edge. She shifted back, the wiggling bulldog in her arms. She looked at our confused faces.
"Oh, did I not mention I was a shapeshifter?"
