Chapter 2:

Nina's POV:

"Welcome everyone! And Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds, be ever in your favour!

"I would like to say what a lovely District you have here! First we shall show you a video specially prepared from the Capitol!" She clapped.

------After the video--------

"Well let's get down to buisness! Ladies first as always!" She reached into the giant bowl and swished the names around and finally picked one. She walked back to the microphone and opened up the slip of paper.

"Bailee Martin!"

No no no no no NO NO NO NO!!!! This can't be happening Bailee can't be in the hunger games! I promised mom and dad that I would protect her before they.. Left I guess.

Bailee looked startled I did too. The peacekeepers started walking towards her. They were just about walk her up to the staged I screamed . She had tears in her eyes.

"W-wait!"

"I-I-I-I Volunteer!!"

"Looks like we have our first volunteer!" Effie exclaimed.

"NINA NINA!! NO NO NINA!" Bailee screeched as I walked up to the stage. Carter had to drag her away to his mother.

"I'll bet that was your sister back there? Wasn't it...?"

I nodded quickly.

"What's your name sweetheart?"

"Nina Martin.." I barely whispered.

"Well moving on off to the boys."

She walked over to the boys bowl. She reached in and grabbed a random name.

"David Rutter"

Fabians POV:

"David Rutter"

WHAT?? My brother can't be in the Hunger Games!

Now I knew how Nina felt with her sister being pulled.

Nina. Wait my crush is going into the Hunger Games? What if she died? Well I know she won't she's the best hunter in all of District 12!

I knew what I had to do.

"I Volunteer as tribute" I said calmly as they walked me to the stage.

"My my, 2 volunteers from an outer District!"

"Well we'd better be going! Happy Hunger Games and may the odds, be ever in your favour!"

She said as Nina and I walked into the Hall of Justice.

We we're separated into different rooms for our family and friends to visit us before our departure to the Capitol.

David and my father came running into the room as soon as I was put into the room.

"Fabian!" Cried my father.

"Why Fabian? Why?" My brother said.

"I can't bear another loss if you go! But you might win you never know you could win this right Fabian? Maybe you and your girlfriend Nina could win together!" Exclaimed my father.

"Dad she's not my girlfriend, as if she'd notice a guy like me... And you can't zone out like you did when mom died! You need to be there for David! Carter that hunter guy he'll still bring you game in exchange for fruits and vegetables. Please please be there for him he needs you more than ever now! Promise you'll be there!"

He nodded

"I promise I will Fabian."

"Thanks dad."

I gave them both a bone crushing hug before they had to leave.

I cried a little when they left. I mean I had practically had to kill the girl I love!

-flashback-

It was in kindergarten, and Nina had been late. It was show and tell day, she had brought in a dead squirrel that had a small knife in its eye socket.

"NINA MARTIN!! Do not bring in dead animals!!" Yelled our teacher.

She nodded and had tears in her eyes but quickly said

"Can I at least tell them that I shot it?"

"Yes Nina but don't bring in a dead animal ever again!"

She went on explaining that she had shot it out if a 60 foot tree and only a knife.

That day I realized I loved her I followed her home every day. Every day. She never noticed me. Of course why would she notice a guy like me, I would never be good enough for her. She'd be better off with that Carter guy she's always hanging around. Those 2 were inseparable. They were like attached at the hip. I wish that was me though. She'll never realize how much I want her to be mine because I most likely end up dead. It was obvious that she'll win.

Nina's POV

"Nina! Nina!" Exclaimed Bailee and Carter.

"Nina you can't die! You just can't what would I do without you? Where would I go? You have to win you just have to!"

"Bailee. Bailee! Calm down! And if I did die you'd go and live with Carter and Gracie.And I can hunt remember? People aren't any different than animals right?

She nodded.

"Carter. She will need your help.can she live with you? Well that's a silly question of course she an live with you and-"

He cut me off.

"Nina of course just promise me you'll be careful and please try to win."

"Nina" whispered Bailee.

"Yes?" I kneeled down to the floor with her.

She took the pin I gave her this morning.

"Bailee I gave this to you. You keep it!"

"It'll keep you safe."

She put the onto my shirt. I smiled at her.

The peacekeepers burst into the room and took away Bailee.

"NINA!!! NO PLEASE WIN FOR ME!!"

"I WILL!"

"Nina just remember that I'll always lo-" they dragged him away before he could finish his sentence.
