The long awaited Chapter 9:

Carter's POV:

I can't stand it anymore! Watching these stupid lovebirds! Nina was supposed to be mine! Not some clown who she barely knows. I've known Nina since she was 13. I threw down my knife that I was using to cut carrots and left the room. I couldn't stand to watch another minute of them.

Nina's POV:

I sat up the for the first time in a few days. Fabian sat next to me, trying to figure out how to fillet a fish.

"Where'd ya get that?" I ask, my voice raspy from lack of water.

"Morning Nina! And there's a stream nearby, saw a fish and decided to try and catch it. Took me about an hour to get it though. Any idea on how to fillet it?"

"Yeah of course I do." I said, clutching my stomach.

"It hurts."

"Oh! Let me change your bandages."

I loved Fabian but, he was being a little too enthusiastic about everything. Like a puppy.

I winced and tried to refrain from screaming at the pain as Fabian unwrapped my bandages.

I gasped as I saw my wound.

It was oozing white pus, it was still bleeding, and the skin seemed to be rotting.

I was about to ask him how bad it was, when we were startled by a voice on the intercom.

"Attention remaining tributes. This will be the last announcement. Tonight at sundown, there will be.... A feast. Each of you needs something. Something important. Report to the cornucopia at sundown. If your bag is not claimed by sunrise, you do not get your bag. Game over."

I closed my eyes, knowing that what was in that bag for District twelve would be medicine for my wound.

"No Fabian you can't go."

"Nina, you need it. I can't just sit here and watch you die!" He exclaimed.

"But the careers are still out there waiting for you! You'll fall right into their trap. I don't want you risking your life for me. I love you."

"But you would do for me..." He trailed off.

I grabbed his jaw and pulled it closer to mine. "Please. Stay." I whispered before I pressed our lips together. We fell asleep after that. Entwined together was how we slept. The only problem was, when I woke up a few hours later, I was alone.

Fabians POV:

I had slept for about an hour. Once I had slipped out of Nina's grip, I grabbed one of her knifes, and left the cave. I made my way towards the cornucopia. I was a little bit early, it wasn't quieter sundown yet, but the bags were there already. No one was in sight. I waited a few minutes, then I ran like hell. I grabbed the bag and sprinted, I was halfway to the forest when a knife hit my forehead. It didn't killed me but it would definatly leave a mark. I turned around to see Joy Mercer releasing another knife, aimed at my heart.
