“Wait I've been here before." I said when we got inside.
“Wait." Jace said stopping me from walking any further. Before I could ask what he was doing, he took the comb out of my hair and let down.
“Well, well, well. Look-a here. I don't remember inviting any children of the nephilim." I heard from behind. A dark haired guy said walking towards us with no pants.
“Magnus bane. We need to talk." Jace stated coldly.
“You know I don't like you guys. But I'll let you stay, but only because of the hot one." I heard at least three thanks from Jace, Isabelle and Bella.
“I meant him. The one with the blue eyes. And because of Clary." Magnus clarified.
“Wait. How do you know her name?" Bella asked. Magnus just ignored her and told me to go with him.
“Where's your mother?" he asked once we got in the other room.
“She's missing."
“That explains it. Every year, she brought you here. She never missed a appointment. Not every spell turns out as perfect as the one I did on you. As soon as you started drawing the angelic rune, it was a sign your memory was surfacing. I had built that into your mind so that she knew when to bring you back. What you saw in the shadow world, you would forget, even as you saw it. But as you grew older, you needed my treatment more frequently. She knew she had to tell you one day, but until you were ready, she wanted to keep the block on your mind. It was exactly how she wanted it. It'll wear off over time. It's already wearing off, or you wouldn't be here."
“I need to remember. My mom doesn't have time. Please there must be something you can do" I was going to go on but I saw my mom's paintings nearby. “You're the one who's been buying all of my mom's paintings. Why did you buy all of them?"
“I knew she needed the money."
“You even have a portrait of my dad."
“That's not your dad. He's a soldier who died in Iraq. Jocelyn never even met the guy. She was asked to paint his portrait, but it was to painful for the widow. She kept the picture so..."
“She could pretend he was my dad." I said interrupting him.
“Everything she did, she did for you. Your mother's whole existence, the running, the hiding, the lies, were to keep you safe."
“Was anything she told me true?" I asked about to cry.
“There's a treasure map inside your head, Clary. Find the cup and it will lead you to your mother."
“They've taken Bella." Jace said coming in.
“Who?" I asked Jace.
“Vampires" he answered before going back to the group. I was about to follow but Magnus held me back.
“Just remember, it was shadowhunters your mother was running from." he said letting me go.
“Let's go find Bella." I told Jace leaving.
We went to a church. I don't know why.
“We can't break into a vampire's lair, we never learned." Alec complained.
“Don't start again"
“Jace, you know the rules."
“Guys what are we doing here? I thought we were trying to find Bella." I said butting in.
“We know were she is. We just have to pick up a few things." Jace told me unlocking the church door.
“What is this, some kind of deal you have with the church?" I asked running into the room.
“Demons exist all over the world in their varying, different forms. Shadowhunters cling to no particular religion, and in turn all religions assist us in our battle. We could have as easily gone to a Jewish synagogue or a Shinto temple or...here it is." he told us.
“Beneath the alter of every church...you'll find this." Jace said moving a big stone out of the way and opening up the box underneath. Everyone started to grab weapons.
“So, what do you believe in?" I asked Jace curiously.
“I believe in myself. I know my job is to kill demons. I don't have to believe in anything else."
“What about the angel Raziel?"
“Yeah, makes for a nice story."
“But Hodge thinks..."
“Yeah, Hodge. He needs to get out more."
“I thought..."
“Listen, I've been hunting demons for over a third of my life, and in all that time, I've never seen an angel. Here you take this one." he said handing me a vampire gun.
“I don't..." I told him.
“Here, let me show you." he said showing me.
“It's a vampire gun. Must pierce the heart. Push it up against the chest. Fire." I did and saw a wooden stick shoot out with a bunch of tiny spikes coming out at the top.
“Recharge. Then you're good to go again." Jace finished doing it for me. And with that, we were off.
“Hotel of death?" I asked looking up at the sign of the building we were at.
“You can't say they don't have a sense of humor." Jace commented.
“Come on" Isabelle told us quietly. As we walked everywhere, I could feel eyes on me. By the look on everyone else's faces, they could too. “She's up here." Jace told me on the second floor. I ran over and saw her hanging from chains. It was a horror image. I ran up the stairs not caring about the noise.
“Oh, my God, oh, my God, Bella." I cried out. I was about to run to her but I stopped when I noticed the problem. Isabelle and Alec put a board out for me. I just ignored them and walked slowly over to Bella. I started taking the chains off from around her neck when she said “go on. Get out. They don't want me. They want you, they want the cup." I got Bella down on the board and handed her to Jace but, we had to start running cause the vampires were following us. We were following the trail that Alec put for us when vampires blocked our way. We changed direction and ran into a room with a chandelier. That was when I realized, we were trapped. War broke out. With a lot of blood, the fight was over. But, I spoke to soon, more vampires filed in. The vampires started to charge at us but these big dogs came from the Windows and started to kill vampires left and right. We took that as our chance to leave. We ran outside on the rooftop but a few more vampires ambushed us. A werewolf killed the vampire in front of us while the others killed the rest. I lead Bella to the ladder but, I told Jace to help her while I help Isabelle up. Out of nowhere, a lone vampire jumped out of the shadows and bit my neck. I screamed from the pain I was in but the vampire only bit down harder and drank more. All I heard before passing out was Jace, Isabelle and alec calling my name and Bella smirking at me.
