Alec's pov
When I saw Bella smirk, I exploded.
“How could you do that to your friend! She could die, you slutty whore." I yelled at her not caring about the others right now. Bella slapped me in the face knocking me to the ground.
“I hope she dies for all I care. Your all googling over her like she's so special. She isn't special. She is nothing but a weak, pathetic, trash that shouldn't exist. I wanted to kill her so badly" Jace had her pinned to the wall in a blink of an eye. He was so angry, it kinda scared me.
“You will not go anywhere near Clary. She is so much better than you will ever be. You come near her and I will kill you." he let her go and went to Clary. He picked her up and walked home with us following behind.
Clary's pov
When I woke up, the first person I saw was Jace.
“Hey. How long was I out?" I asked him getting out of bed.
“All day. Maybe you should rest a little."
“I'm fine. I'm just going to go see Isabelle and Alec"
“Okay. I'll be in the library if you need anything" he informed me. I went to Isabelle's room. I was about to knock when I heard muffled voices so, I just went to the library.
“What did that piano ever do to you?" I asked, seeing Jace get frustrated with the piano he was playing.
“You play it like you've lost your only love" I added softly.
“Unfortunately, my one true love remains myself."
“Well, at least you don't have to worry about rejection."
“Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally just to keep it interesting."
“You do play that with a lot of passion."
“Well, that's the problem. I play it with too much emotion. It's supposed to be played with a simple representation of notes, no interpretation."
“Music is supposed to have emotion." I said sitting down with him.
“Demons react to certain frequencies when two tones cross. Drives them crazy. See, Bach discovered this and put it into a system using a mathematical progression of tonal combinations that allows us to expose demons"
“So Bach was a shadowhunter?" I asked looking at the portrait of the pianist.
“Yes"
“So...Bach is to demons what garlic is to vampires."
“Kind of. I mean, you can run out of garlic. You can't really run out of music."
“Is that were you keep all your toys?" I asked looking at the golden circular door with a big red knob in the middle.
“It's way more fun. Come on." Jace said walking over to it. “Like the Bermuda triangle, it's a natural phenomenon. The institute was built around it. Some say that the institute was the first building in New York." He informed me opening the door.
“So it's..."
“Dimensions aren't all just straight lines. There's binds, folds and nooks. It's a little bit difficult to explain, but the portal can take you wherever you want to go in this dimension." the doors opened up “so, as soon as you break that surface, you're transported to wherever your deepest thoughts lie."
“So that means...my mom..."
“Wait" Jace said stopping me from going through the portal.
“We spend our entire lives training how to use it, visualizing where it will take us before we step into it, and that takes incredible focus. If you were to step into it without the proper training, you could end up in limbo, lost in your own mind forever. Here. Let me show you." Jace said moving me to the middle of the room. “No peeking" he added. He walked over to the portal, took a piece of it out and put the little bubble next to me. I felt something caress my hair. I looked over and saw Jace's hand doing it. I'm glad my back was turned cause I'm pretty sure my face was as red as a tomato.
“Pretty cool, isn't it?" he asked retrieving his hand.
“Now...you and I...have a birthday to celebrate." Jace added closing the portal.
“How did you know?"
“Research. When I was trying to find you." Jace and I went up to this place filled with beautiful flowers.
“No one comes up here anymore. We have the place to ourselves."
“This is breathtaking."
“Sorry there's no cake." Jace said handing me a Apple with a lit candle in it.
“Well, I was expecting nothing, so this is great."
“Well, everyone should get something for their birthday."
“What did you get?" I asked sitting on the stairs.
“Weapons mostly. I'm sure that doesn't surprise you."
“At this point, nothing really does." I said smiling at him.
“When I was nine...my father gave me a falcon. He told me to make it obedient. I was supposed to keep the bird blind, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Instead, I touched and stroked its wings until it trusted me. I tamed it to perfection. I took it to my father, expecting him to be proud of what I'd done. He said, ´I told you to make it obedient. Instead, you taught it to love you. You didn't tame it, you broke it.' Then he took the bird and he broke his neck. I cried all night and I never cried again." Jace told me about his falcon.
“Did you ever forgive him?"
“He did it to make me stronger."
“Does that stand for wayland?" I asked him changing the subject. I ran my fingers over his ring with a ´w' on it. Before he could answer the clock struck twelve.
“Midnight. Watch this." he told me pointing at the flowers. Each and every flower opened up in the most beautiful way possible.
“When every girl says she wants a big rock, she doesn't literally mean big rock." I said in shock seeing the big rock Jace gave me.
“Every shadowhunter should have their own witchlight." When we were about to kiss, I heard a sound. I looked over with my eyes and saw a raven pitched on a branch.
“We have company."
“That's Hodges bird. We should probably go. We should probably go." Jace said helping me down. I accidentally tripped at the bottom and fell into Jace's arms. Suddenly a pair of lips were on mine. I gasped and pulled him closer.
“Yeah. We should definitely go." Jace said when the sprinklers came on.
“Sorry about the sprinkler system. I forgot about that." Jace said walking me to my room.
“You going to sleep?"
“Well, aren't you tired?"
“I've never been more awake." he said coming in for another kiss. I stopped to open the door to my room. As soon as I got in, I was pinned to the wall by Jace who immediately attacked my lips. This was the best birthday ever.
