a small cuddle

I've had a cat for over 2 years.
Every day I fill up her food bowl and pour her some more water.
I try keep her well groomed by brushing her when I can.
She doesn't always let me do it.
I scoop her shit and her piss from her litter box every night.
She defecates a lot for a little cat.
I do a lot to take care of her and to keep her happy but I don't really get much from her in return.
If I'm lucky, maybe she'll jump up on the couch with me at the end of the day and give me a small cuddle, but I never count on it.
She's not the best at expressing herself.
But then again, neither am I.
I've got a lot in common with that little cat.
I know what it's like when somebody tries really hard to take care of you and to make sure that you are happy, and you just can't repay them even if you want to.
I know what it's like when people often get frustrated with you because they think that it's because you don't care, when in reality it's simply because you just don't know what you're supposed to do.
I try really hard to show him that I care and that I appreciate him for all that he does, but sometimes the only thing that comes out of it is a small gesture.
I hope he knows that I'm trying.
Just like I know that my cat is trying.
So even if the only thing that comes out of filling up food and water bowls, brushing excess fur, and cleaning shit and piss is a small cuddle at the end of the day, I'll take it.
Because I know that it means so much more than I can even begin to comprehend.
