CONSTANCE
The sound of the monitors beeped in Constance's ear. She wasn't dead...what she? No...if she were dead, she would be hearing the angels singing and playing those little harps. She was in a hospital. Finally she willed her eyes to open and a sudden throbbing filled her head. Her body felt weighed down as she lifted her arm to feel her face, probably searching for the crushed glasses that lay at her bed side. Her fingers graze the bandages wrapped around her head and she groans again, this time much louder. Suddenly she heard shuffling to her side and when she opened her blue green eyes a bit wider, it revealed a tall and skinny red headed nurse on the telephone.
"Doctor Cullen, Miss Williams is awake." She says as if everyone's life depended on Constance waking up. Of course, that wasn't true. Constance's family had been dead for years. No relatives...no friends. No nothing.
From where Constance was laying, a small window led out to the hallway where she saw a head of disheveled golden hair, definitely a man, and a much shorter brunette female. They seemed to be arguing about something before the male surrenders and lets the female fix him up. Constance didn't think much of it until she saw that the flaxen haired man had stepped inside her room.CARLISLE
After Alice quickly fixed his disheveled clothing, Carlisle gracefully swept himself inside the small hospital room where A young woman lay on the bed. This wasn't just any young woman. This was his young woman. His amazing self control was the only thing keeping him from grabbing her...kissing her...biting her. He put on his usual brisk stature and walked over to the machines that she was hooked up to. The smell of her blood was not as strong as it was when she first came into the hospital...but it was still there. Tempting him. After a moment of checking her machines, he slowly took a seat beside her bed. She looked expectantly up at him, her beautiful face still cut and bruised. A small, tight lipped smile crossed his lips and he nodded to the woman. Taking her small hand, he placed a kiss on her skin before gently setting it down.
"Miss Williams, you have been through quite a lot these past few days." He states, his topaz eyes looking down at her. Constance looked hesitant for a moment, slowly biting her lip as she let everything soak in.
"Darling, don't do that." Carlisle states calmly as he reaches to her and slowly places her lip back into its original position with his thumb. Number one, biting her lip could cause more damage, considering the opposite end was busted. Number two, doing that was a terrible tease and Carlisle didn't think he could stand it. A small blush invaded the slightly freckled cheeks of the young lady.
"W-what happened..?" Constance asks, her voice rough and croaky. Her voice was like music to Carlisle, despite being dry. He handed her a small cup of water in which she downed quickly.
"You were in a car accident, Miss Williams." He answers, pursing his lips and looking through his papers.
"You have a concussion and some cuts and bruises. I had to stitch up your temple, but other than that, you are fine." He explains, looking into her beautiful sea green eyes. Constance's eyes widen at the news and suddenly everything comes back to her.
"I am actually very surprised that you have made it this far. You lost a lot of blood." He says, the very thought of her passing, killing him. He wouldn't have let that happen. He would have turned her.
CONSTANCE
A car accident? Oh god....she could remember it all. The flashes of horror passed through her mind and she shut her eyes very abruptly, trying to get them out of her head. Fluttering them open again, she spots a petite girl standing in the doorframe. She was staring intently at Constance, her golden eyes piercing through her.
"Alice!" The Doctor beside her exclaims. The girl turns to her head to him abruptly and she flashes a smile.
"I just came to have a look." The girl-Alice remarks.
"You will meet her in due time. Now please, leave." The man states calmly and Alice finally gives up. She sends Constance a knowing wink before backing up into the hallway. What was that all about?
"I'm sorry about that. My daughter can get a little nosy sometimes." The doctor states. Constance turned her head to him and that is the first time she got a good look at the man. And goodness...he was beautiful. Palest skin she had ever seen came in contrast with his dark pink lips. Flaxen, slicked back hair and a strong jaw. This doctor wasn't an ordinary doctor. He was gorgeous. Her favorite thing had to be his amazing eyes. They seemed to pierce through her like a sharp crystal. Her heart beat a little faster and she quickly averted her eyes. Did he say daughter? He looked too young to have a daughter that old. Constance was only a few years older than what that girl looked to be. She brushed it off, trying to focus herself back into the situation.
"Oh...um, no it's alright." Constance answers, her voice much smoother now. She sighed and rubbed her face, trying to de-mush her brain.
"Now, you are free to go this afternoon, but you cannot leave town. I'll need to see you back for follow up appointments." The doctor says, writing down something on his small pad of paper.
"Stay?" Constance questions, shaking her head.
"No...I can't stay." She states, looking at him.
"I don't have enough money for a hotel. There is no way I can stay." She says frantically.
"Miss, your truck is totaled. I'm afraid you won't be going anywhere for a while." Doctor Cullen states, reaching out to take her hand comfortingly. It was a little bit odd that he did so, but being a doctor, she was sure that it was usual for him to calm his patients down.
"Listen.." He mumbles, leaning in ever so slightly.
"I have quite a large house. I'm sure my family would be glad to have you." He says softly, his whole demeanor calm and collected. He offered her a place at his house? Wow...she never thought that somebody would just offer their house up to a stranger.
"Oh I couldn't-" She starts, being cut off by his hand.
"Yes you could. We need this room for other patients and I am not letting you sleep on the streets. That is final." He states, standing up and grabbing his note pad.
"We will leave when my shift is over. Please, rest and the nurse with tend to you." Doctor Cullen says before nodding his head in a goodbye and leaving.
Constance had a feeling deep down in her stomach. Something was going to happen.Hey! Hope you enjoyed this chapter! It's a little longer than the last and I am working on making them longer each time. Thanks for reading!
