"Constance dear, you really shouldn't sit like that with your head injury." Carlisle spoke up after clearing his throat, his hands still busy typing on his computer. Constance snaps out of her own little world, blinking a few times before sitting up properly. "I'm sorry." She says softly, giving him a tight lipped smile as she casually hugged herself. "It's alright. Just please be more careful. We don't want you hurt again, now do we?" He asks, shooting a pleasant smile before his golden eyes drift back to his computer screen. "No...I suppose not." She chuckles awkwardly, eyes looking down at her feet. At first the silence was comfortable...but soon it became more awkward. Tapping her foot on the ground, she sighed deeply, desperately searching for something to say. "So...erm- uh.." she stutters but is suddenly cut off by the door to Carlisle's office swinging open. "Doctor Carlisle, Mr. Talbot is here for his appointment." The blonde nurse says quickly. "Ah yes, thank you." Carlisle says, standing briskly and walking to the door. "Constance, I'll be gone for about 30 minutes. You are welcome to continue reading or whatever you need to do in order to pass the time." He stated before walking out of his office, brushing past the blonde nurse. The sharp eyed nurse glances at Constance and instead of leaving, she shuts the office door and walks over, sitting down in Carlisle's chair. Constance raised her brow at the nurse who was looking at her. "Can I do something for you?" She asks hesitantly. The nurse responds quickly. "Yes, actually." She states obnoxiously. "I suggest you stay away from Doctor Cullen. I don't know what you are thinking in that little head of yours, but he is way too good for you. Older. Handsome. Smart. Perfect. I mean, look at yourself! Naive, frumpy and nerdy. Nothing compared to me. So whatever your little plan is...forget about it. I've worked hard getting the attention of Carlisle. So don't stand in my way." She rants cruelly, finally standing up and brushing off her uniform. "Good chat." She states with a sickly sweet smile before walking out and shutting the door behind her. "Yikes." Constance mumbles, gripping the arm of the couch. That hurt. Especially since she was fantasizing about Carlisle. She knew deep down that she was just a patient in his eyes. But for some reason, she was happy to be with him, despite knowing that he could never see her as beautiful. Maybe she should just...leave. Pick up her car and drive off, never to come in contact with the Cullens again. She stood up, quickly rushing out of the office and to the lobby. "Have a nice day, Connie!" The blonde nurse calls in a candy sweet voice. Constance gritted her teeth, her eyes stinging as she marches out of the hospital. Jacob had mentioned something to her about fixing up her truck on his reserve. It couldn't be too far from here. She would stop somewhere and ask where he lived. The town was small enough that most would surely know.
Constance had been walking along the side of the road for about 15 minutes when a cop car pulls up beside her. A middle aged cop with brown hair and a brown beard rolls down the window. "Can I give you a ride somewhere, ma'am?" He asks. "Oh! Um...actually, do you know where Jacob Black lives?" She asks, hoping he knew. "Yeah, I do. Want me to take you there?" He asks. "That would be great." Constance says with relief before quickly moving to the passenger side of the car and getting in. "So, I haven't seen you around these parts before." The officer speaks. "Yes, well I've been staying with the Cullens. Doctor Cullen treated me in the hospital and offered me shelter." Constance explains. "Really? Why, my daughter is actually married to one of the Cullen boys. You may know her. Bella?" He says pleasantly as he drives. "Oh my, you are Bella's father! What a coincidence." She says with a smile, looking at the man. "Yes, yes. She actually mentioned you." He states. "Officer Swan, by the way. But everybody calls me Charlie." He says, giving her a nod. "A pleasure to meet you, Charlie. Are we very far from the Black's?" She questions, tilting her head to the side. "No, no, not far at all. Just right down the road here." He answers casually, pointing to the road ahead of them. Constance nods, lounging back in her seat. Before she knew it, they pulled back into a wooded area where a wooden house stood. A barn was not far from the sight and she could see her wrecked truck not looking as bad as it did before. Woah, Jacob sure knew how to fix up a truck. Constance thanks Charlie before quickly sliding out of the car. She watches as the cop car drives off silently. Constance grits her teeth, quickly running to her truck and opening the drivers side of the car. It was practically new! She wished she would have time to thank Jacob, but she had to leave. This ridiculous crush of hers was getting out of hand. She needed to start her journey again. Do what she had been doing. She revved up the engine with a victorious smile and pressed down on the gas. In her rear view mirror, a figure of a man ran towards the truck. "Hey! Wait!" He called, waving his arms frantically. "Tell Jacob I said thank you!" Constance calls before booking it down the road. The trees rush past her in a blur as she drives, a nervous yet relieved sigh escaping her lips. On to California. She grips the wheel with her left hand, reaching for her old map in the glovebox.
