“Shh,” I giggled as I slapped a hand over Russel’s mouth. I felt him grin under it. “You’re being super loud.”
“I should find something to occupy my mouth then shouldn’t I?” he chuckled as I slapped his chest and he leaned in, crushing his lips to mine.
I had done nothing all day. I sat around my house, catching up with my dad and watching TV. I decided it was time to go do something when the 5 hour marathon restarted. Right now I was at the drive-in movies with the gang. Russel and myself were “getting drinks”. We had walked to the concession stand then took an escape route around the building into a little wooded area.
My hand moved to his neck, toying with the hair on his neck line. Our kisses were quick and sloppy as we rushed to get our fill. His hands crept under my tank top and his fingers teased my exposed skin.
“You look really nice tonight,” I grinned at him as he pressed his forehead to mine. I pushed to the tips of my toes, pressing my lips to his again.
“You look gorgeous. As always,” he complimented me. My cheeks reddened at his word choice.
“Always a charmer. Anywho, we need to go,” I gave him a few more quick pecks before breaking the embrace. I didn’t get far before Russel gripped my hand and tugged me back into him. I couldn’t say that I didn’t expect it.
He lightly pressed me against a tree and I was glad before the bark was rough against my exposed shoulders. His mouth occupied mine before I could say anything. His tongue teased, stroked, massaged mine and I easily responded. My arms wrapped around his neck and my legs found themselves around his waist as he hosted me up and against the tree. His shirt had risen and my bare thighs burned where they touched his skin. I let out a quiet moan and he pressed himself closer. Lust pumped through my veins.
The next thing I knew, I was on my feet and Russel was 5 feet away from me.
“Hi,” I squeaked a greeting to our intruder.
“What the actual fuck, Spencer,” he spit out. “You two can’t even control yourselves when you’re together, can you? You know, I had to almost fight Dillon to sit down when he got suspicious. I knew you guys shouldn’t have gone together.”
“Shut up, Luke,” Russel growled out. He stepped closer to me. “You have a mate, you should know what it feels like, alright? And take your beef up with me, I dragged her out here.”
“How could you be so stupid?!” Luke exploded. But it wasn’t directed at Russel, it was directed to me. My blood started to boil, but I stayed silent. He lowered his voice as he stepped closer to me. I looked him dead in the eye as he viciously threw words at me. “Is he worth it? Is he really worth what you’re risking right now?” Luke stepped even closer, and I don’t even think he realized it. “I thought you were smarter than this, I swear I thought you’d make the right choice. When did you get so dumb? Are you really okay with losing all of us, everyone, just for him?” He gestured wildly at Russel. “Just because you can’t control your hormones? Jesus, growup.”
My gaze shifted from Luke’s red face to my shoes. I didn’t want to look at Russel, I already knew he was fuming. But Luke’s words stung me. Did he really think that of me? I felt like he had just spit in my face. I crossed my arms over my chest as I took a defensive stance. Luke said he’d stick with me through whatever… we were best friends. He was supposed to protect me, support me through this…
“Wow,” I said quietly and swallowed down the lump in my throat. I took in a deep breath, wiping my face of emotions. I wouldn’t let him see how much that hurt. Never show your weaknesses, that’s what my father used to tell me. “Best friends, huh? You’re really acting like one.”
