Hunted

Damnit, damnit, damnit.  There are about seven wolves. Someone is going to get more than the others.

Seven archers or barbarians walked from the foliage. One for each wolf. We were surrounded.

This is not going to end pretty.

One of the archers spoke,"You have a decision; either you surrender now and avoid a fight which will not be well for you, or we fight and take you by force."

"Where will you take us?", Spike questioned. "That is none of your concern," replied the archer.

"Oh, but isn't it? If you're going to take me I would like to know where."

"We cannot give you that information."

Spike paused and glanced at me. Leo also looked at me with questioning eyes. This decision was up to me, I decided our fate. If only I wasn't so head strong, although it's not like they were opposed. We had a decision, to surrender, or potentially die.

Well we were never ones to run from a fight.

I lifted my staff off the ground, and let the power course through my veins and arteries, connecting and filling all of me with immense skill. I felt the power. The staff had become one with me. There was nowhere where I begun and the staff ended. We were one, solid, dangerous weapon.

My eyes remained closed as I slammed the end of the staff back into the ground. I slowly opened my eyes. With the added effect of the staff, everything was more defined. I could count every leaf and feel every movement within one thousand steps from me. This was more power than I had ever handled, and it scared me just a little. Just a little.

I muttered my next words, and even with the roar of Spike's chainsaw and the sounds of the forest, everyone could clearly hear me say,"We fight."

Time seemed to freeze. Well, not exactly freeze, just slow down.
The wolves jumped from their haunches, the barbarians bellowed in a cry of war and charged, Spike, Leo, and I took fighting stances, and thus the fight commenced.

Five wolves came after Leo, two wolves and three barbarians took on me, and the remaining four barbarians went after Spike.

Here we go.

At the last minute, the two wolves who were charging at me ran at Leo!

What the shit!?

Chains sprang from the bushes and wrapped around Spike. Spike screamed and fell to the floor. I yelled in frustration, this was their plan all along. I decided to focus on what was in front of me. If they do get captured I need to make sure I didn't get captured so I could save them.

Please don't be captured. Please don't leave me.

The barbarians reached me and I flung out a wave of power through my right hand. I caught two in my grasp and burned them, inside out.

Just five more.

I used my staff as a boost to get the right height, and kicked a barbarian in the jaw. The force was so strong, his head twisted a full 360 and made a hair raising crackling sound. I was struck in my back with an arrow and howled in pain. I struck the closest barbarian with my staff with a hit that sent him flying away. Another volley of arrows struck me and I groaned.

My vision was blurring and I could feel my power and blood seeping out of my wounds. This was like that time in the woods, months ago. When I first met Spike, I thought with a smile. My knees hit the ground, out of the corner of my eye I saw Spike and Leo still struggling. Spike saw me and it seemed like he was screaming something, screaming at me. With me. For me. But I couldn't hear him. The world was still muffled to my ears.

I did however, notice the tears going down my face. Across my nose and to the blood sodden ground. The members of my board. My court. Companions. Friends. Family. The people I spent almost a year with, were being attacked and taken before my eyes. They were suffering.

Never again, I promised myself. Never again will I let the people I love suffer.

I was hauled into a truck that seemed Freak Proof. Wisely, Spike, Leo, and I were kept in separate cars. The cars started moving, straight to our demises.
