Gemma has a baking tray of oven pasta, true to her word. She grins at the look on Matty's face when he takes the first bite.

"Is George starving you over there?"

"Of his cock, maybe."

Gemma sighs and pours herself a glass of wine. "Sometimes I feel like you share too much with me."

Matty grins. "No such thing."

Gemma giggles. "So... are you going to ask him out, all proper boyfriends?"

Matty snorts. "Definitely not. He wouldn't- he's not into me like that."

Gemma raises an eyebrow. Matty gestures vaguely. "You know what I mean, Gem."

Gemma sighs again. She's perfecting her sigh, apparently. It's very effective. "Are you honestly telling me that George- George- is using you for your body? Matty? Are you honestly telling me that right now?"

Matty takes a gulp of the wine. Gemma opens her mouth but then shakes her head and pours Matty some more.

Matty's phone rings at about seven. He and Gemma are completely smashed on her sofa, giggling about Gemma's old ex-boyfriend who liked to wear her shirts.

Matty answers without looking at the caller ID. "Hello?"

"Matty?"

"George?" Matty sets down his glass. Gemma's eyes widen and she makes a wanking gesture. Matty flips her off.

"Yeah, it's fucking George. You've been gone for hours, are you still with Gemma?"

"Yeah." Matty hiccups. "Whoops! I've had a lot George. I'll be home soon though."

There's a long pause and George finally says, "Who's bringing you home?"

Matty turns to Gemma. "Who's bringing me home?"

Gemma giggles. "A taxi? You could blow the taxi driver for a free ride."

Matty hears George's frustrated sigh on the other end. "I'm coming to pick you up. Don't move." Then he hangs up.

"Rude," Matty says, but then laughs. "He's so rude! But he's also so sweet. I love him."

Gemma snorts and starts laughing too. "Well of course you do. Which is why you should tell him how you feel."

Matty groans and falls back against the sofa. "If only."

Gemma moves a curl away from his face. "Well, why don't you?"

"I could ruin everything." Suddenly, Matty feels his eyes sting. "I'm so stupid."

Gemma pats his shoulder and and gets the wine bottle. "You'll be alright love."

Matty's phone makes a noise. It's a text alert from George. Waiting outside.

Matty sighs. "Well, thanks for this, Gem."

Gemma kisses the corner of his mouth. "Go get your boy, yeah? Call me in the morning."

"I will."

Matty closes her door and hops down the stairs, past the other flats, and out of the building. Matty climbs into the taxi on the side of the street and doesn't look at George's face.

The ride home is awkward and uncomfortable. Matty actually feels like he could die right now.

At home, it's even worse. George doesn't slam the keys down on the table, doesn't stomp to his room, doesn't yell at Matty. He's so gentle with Matty all the time and that doesn't change even when he's angry.
