"Are you going to live like this the rest of your life?"

"Young and beautiful? Probably not."

Gemma cuffs him in the back of the head. Matty glares and rolls away from her.

"No, you twat. Are you just never going to tell George how you feel?"

Matty sighs into the pillow he's got his face buried in. "Go away."

"You're in my flat. You go away."

Matty doesn't move. He can hear Gemma sigh from right above him. He hums when she starts petting his hair.

"Matty you can't keep doing this to yourself."

"What do you mean?"

"Letting him use you for-"

Matty sits up so abruptly that Gemma's nails snag in his hair. "I'm using George just as much as he's using me. And it's not even using really, he's my best friend and sometimes we get off with each other and that's all it is."

Gemma stares at him for so long that Matty starts to sweat. Finally, she says, "Would you like me to talk to him?"

"Absolutely not," says Matty, lying back down on the sofa. Gemma's sofa is very soft and covered in cat hair. "I'll talk to him myself."

"Yeah, and when will you grow those balls?"

"I already have them, thank you, and I know because the other day George-"

"Okay, don't need the details, thanks." From this angle, her eyebrows look rather odd when she raises them.

Matty grins. "I knew you'd understand."

Gemma sighs, going off to fetch another bottle of wine. "Yeah, yeah."

George is watching Nigella when Matty gets home. There's a notepad in his lap and he looks very concentrated.

Matty goes over and hangs off the back off the sofa. "Taking notes from Nigella, are we? Something you want to tell me George?"

George snaps the notepad closed and his eyes widen. "What?"

Matty grins. "Are you alright, mate? You're a bit jumpy."

George snorts. "Mate," he mutters, then says louder, "I'm fine, yeah."

"Alright," Matty says softly. He leans forward to kiss George's nose and slide off the back of the sofa to the kitchen.

Matty sleeps in George's bed that night because his sheets are being washed. It's a flimsy excuse, but he didn't need excuses before they started sleeping together so why should he need them now?

George holds Matty to his chest and Matty can feel his heartbeat, his head moving with George's chest every time he breathes. He's already asleep, Matty can tell by the way he's breathing, his arms loosely curled around Matty. His lips are smushed against Matty's forehead and his hair is tickling, soft.

It's intimate, domestic. It makes Matty's heart jump and his stomach hurt.

He doesn't fall asleep for a long time.

sorry this was so short. I'm very tired and sad as of late. hope you enjoyed!!!
