Later that day
POV Hannah
Light clouds my vision, but I hear something. The sound goes soft, then leaves. I feel hands on mine. Ringing in my ear starts, then it stops. I hear beeping, but where's it coming from? I hear voices. "What are we going to do if s-she never wakes up mom?" I hear someone say. Mom? Is my mom here? "I don't know but we'll hope that she does wake up sooner or later, hopefully sooner Thomas." I hear another person reply. My little brother Tom?
"How do you feel about Hannah dear? Do you like her? You were with her a lot but then you guys stopped hanging out for some reason. Hannah wouldn't tell me anything, and when I brought up the subject she went to her room." I hear mom ask. I think she's talking to Spencer. "Well, we had a disagreement and stopped talking for a while." Spencer says quietly.
"Oh well it's your fault she hasn't been talking to me then. Did you know she shut me out, her best friend? She was always mumbling about something. I haven't spoken to her in days, and when she did talk she just spoke about her dad and you. I was worried sick when I found out she fell off the old bridge." Lucy says.
My family, my friends there here. Well only ones my friend, but Spencer is still here so that should count for something right? I want to tell them I can hear them, I want to say I'm sorry for shutting out my family and best friend. Most of all I want to explain to Spencer why the mystery was so important to me. I want to talk to them again. My heartbeat picks up pace.
"Nurse." I hear someone yell. 'Nurse, somebody, we need help in here." The yelling continues. Then the door opens. "What's the matter?" The nurse asks. "Her heart rate picked up, it's beating faster then before, is something wrong?" I hear Spencer ask frantically. "She seems fine, maybe she heard you guys talking and is trying to wake up." The nurse says "What, so you are saying that she can hear us?" I hear Thomas ask incredulously.
"Maybe...maybe she can hear you, or she could have just woke up, and can't hear you guys at all but is still trying to wake up. She could also be having a bad dream." The nurse explains. "Well I am going to hope that she's trying to wake up because she can hear us." Lucy says. "Hey sis if you can hear can you move your right hand, or at least try to?" Thomas says
Right. Left. Which hand is which? Come on Hannah think. Which hand is right and which one is left.... Well let's try this.
POV Hannah's Mom
What is Thomas thinking? How could she respond to that? She's in a coma! I don't want Thomas to get his hopes up by thinking Hannah can hear him. I look at my daughter then towards my son. I see Thomas' face light up. Why's that? "Her foot moved mom." Thomas says. I quickly look towards my daughter again. With eyes wide opens, and shock, disbelief clearly written across my face, I see her foot move.
POV Hannah
My foot?....That was my foot!? Okay let's try this again then.
POV Lucy
Her foot moved that's what Tom said, but I need to see it to believe it. Twitch. Her foot moved, her right one. Maybe she can hear us.
POV Hannah
That was my foot. I can tell the difference now between my limbs. Arm, where's my arm?...Huh, what a weird question and notion in itself. 'Where's my arm', I think humorously. I visualize an image of a body. The outline of one. Feet, Calf, Knees, Thighs, Hips, Torso, Upper Body, Shoulders, Arms, Elbows, Hands, Neck and Head, well really, a face.
POV Spencer
Hannah, she's waking up. "Come on Hannah you can do it. Wake up!" I say as I see her fingers move, then her hands start to shake. Her foot twitch's then her leg moves. Come on, come on, Hannah I know you can do it. I think in my head.
POV Hannah
I hear Spencer's voice. Spence's voice, it motivates me to wake up more. Come on, move. I need to move, I've got to wake up. I remember the last times I was with them.
Flashback
It's Tuesday February 11 2014, a normal day. My little brother woke me up today at 8:00am. Then, I went to make him breakfast while he woke up our parents. I made eggs, sausage and toast. I also made coffee for my parents, a glass of milk for Tommy. His name's really Thomas, only people he likes can call him Tommy. When I finish making breakfast everyone's down stairs already dressed and ready for work or in Tommy's case school. We finished eating, and I went to change.
The memory fades. I have to do this for Thomas for Tom.
Spencer and I are think of hint's that are in these clues. While Spencer is looking at the paper I look at him. He's so cute. The way puts all his attention on one thing, it's like he's giving it his all. Trying to make it the best he can. When he looks at me I quickly look away acting as if I was working on the clues the whole time.
Out of the corner of my eye I see him smile. "So Hannah, did you find any hints?" He asks. "Yeah, I have. The clues says, 'The place were sadness and happiness are one, we're thinking is done, we're one shows emotions and children have fun.' It's mentioning me, I always went to a special place when I was sad, happy or had some things to think about. It was..."
The memory fades. I have to do this for Spencer.
I'm walking in the mall and someone bumps into me. "Are you thinking about what to get me for Christmas?" Lucy asks. "No Christmas is months away. Why would I be thinking of that?" I ask."Well you know how much I love Christmas, it isn't a crime to get an early start." Lucy states. "Yes, but were in the middle of summer Lucy. It makes no sense to be thinking of Christmas at this time. Only you could do that." I reply. "Well I was-"She get's cut off as someone bumps into her.
She loses her balance but is caught before she can hit the ground. She looks up and is caught in a daze. "Um Lucy," I say. The boy brings her up right. "Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" The boy says. "'No problem." Lucy says. "Bye" the boy replies and walks off into the crowd.
Lucy looks behind her after the boy. "Lucy, so do you think he's cute?" I ask her. "What, oh yes kind of." She replies and blushes. 'You might see him again" I say. "What's the possibility that, that will happen?" She questions. 'You're right" I say. We start laughing.
The memory fades. I have to wake up for Lucy.
I walk down the stairs and see my mom sitting on the couch. She has been so sad since dad died. I don't know how to cheer her up. She puts on a happy face and deals with it for Tom and me, but I see the sadness in her eyes. "Hey mom can I go out for a bit?" I ask. She looks up. "Yes you can. Where are you going?" She asks. I start walking to the door "To the mall" I reply. I open the door. "Be safe." She says before I'm out the house.
I walk to the mall in 10 minutes. I go into a store and buy mom a necklace. It's a heart necklace where you can put two photos in it. I walk back home and give it to her. 'What's this for?" Mom questions. "Just open it mom please." I say. When she opens it I say. 'You can keep a picture of dad in there and a picture of Tom and me too."
She looks up with tears in her eyes. "How'd you know?" She asks. "Mom, I know you. I know when you are sad. I see that you're putting on a happy face for Tom and me." I reply. Thank you Hannah, I love it." Mom says. "That's why I got it for you mom, so you still have a piece of dad with you." I say
I feel myself shaking. Then I see light and a lone figure. "Dad?" I say. "Hey Hannah, How are you?" He says. "I'm good, Why are you here." I ask. "To tell you too let the boy in, let him know why you are doing all this." He says. "I know dad, I came to that conclusion after the accident." I say. "Good, can you tell your mom I love her, and Thomas to have fun, don't grow up too fast. Cherish your childhood." He says somberly.
"Also tell Lucy that she was like a second daughter to me, that she'll always be part of the family. Oh and tell that boy, what's his name?" Dad asks. "Spencer." I tell him. "Yes Spencer. Tell Spencer, that he's a nice kid. And that if he ever hurts you I'll come back from the dead to haunt him. Understood." Dad threatens. "Yes dad." I say with a smile. "Now how do I get back?" I ask. "Oh just think of them dear.... Just think." I hear dad say sounding like he's not interiorly there, lost off in a memory perhaps. "I love you." I hear dad say as the scene begins to change, to fade.
This is my longest chapter of this book so far. It has 1660 words.
