Dying Is Easy

I could hear my heartbeat thumping on the inside of my eardrums. I tried to slow my breathing as I crouched there, hidden in the clouds of darkness, praying to the heavens that they wouldn't see me. On the brink of tears looking as vulnerable as I could be. The moonlight was their only flashlight, but I knew they smelled me, the scent of my fear and blood was in the air.

With caution, I crouched lower and with as much stealth as I could, into the swamp. The muck felt revolting against my bare flesh, resulting in me giving a slight shudder...That was my mistake after all, as I heard the swamp water splash. I heard panting and feet penetrating the earth from a close distance. I was yanked into the air by my hair and thrown down onto the ice cold moist grass. Hands grabbed at my head as I let out a blood curdling scream, and my neck was snapped to the side....Everything went black.

....That's all that I can remember, the night that I died.

It's hard to believe that my wonderful life changed so drastically. This wasn't supposed to happen to me. My life was, well...perfect. There's only one way for me to start my life story off...So I'll be perfectly honest with you, it started with a chip.

Well, excuse my rudeness, my name is Alejandra Lorraine Cromwell. Yes, I am an heir to one of the most successful & wealthiest men in technology. He invented cars that are controlled by your mind, instead of by your hands. A microchip is inserted into your nostril. Well, technically it crawls into your nostril and goes all the way up until it reaches your brain. It connects to the medula oblongata. Somehow it works off the part of your brain that creates dreams, and to another area of your brain that helps to store memories. The overall look and size of this microchip is about the size of a little tick. Even looks like one! Strange right? Yes it may be but hey, after the sting, it's not that bad!

Of course I inherited one of the very first cars that passed inspection! I couldn't drive it until recently though, when I turned eighteen. Albeit there are a few side effects, such as mood swings, and cramping with a tinge of slight swelling of the brain...but it's only temporary. My grandfather's business was nearly shut down though after some broke low-life loser tried to spread all these horrible rumors about the microchip.

He was trying to claim that he was one of the guinea pigs at the testing facility and that some people went mad. People were "supposedly," developing strange gifts or diseases from the chip. The man looked all sleep deprived and totally out of it, and he had all of these papers in his hands of some of the names of the people claiming how they were dead or extremely hostile. He even went so far as to have a video of creepy people dressed up in like, rags and some were even drenched in fake blood! He was the headline; (or should I say joke) in Visalia for a long time.
