"Shit!"

I muttered under my breath and took out two pistols full of ammo. The mutants, some limping and some quick, came running.

"Sure you can aim with that thing?" Zayo called out after stepping beside me and shooting the mutants. I looked down at the guns and heard the moans. It accelerated my heart beat just like before.

Only this time, the feeling made me excited and I looked up at the mutants without mercy. Everything looked clear and I felt energy flow through me, all over. Without another thought I ran into the mob of mutants.

As their hands reached for me I sliced it off, it made a sickening sound and what worried me, I wasn't phased by it. The sound didn't scare me and as I shot each mutant I became there less and less.

It was like a blood thirsty  monster inside of me ripped its way out. Blood of the mutants splatted on my clothes and as I jumped up onto a table I looked over at Zayo. Luckily she looked focused, killing the few mutants left. I sliced the head off of one, my blade easily going through, bone and all.

besides two outside that Zayo was getting I had three left, one bullet, and a bloody sword. I aimed the gun at a little girl's head and without a thought I shot her. Watching her head explode in such a way made me hesitate.

Turns out, you shouldn't do that while mutants are reaching for you because as I stopped fighting the two mutants grabbed my leg flinging me to the ground.

I screamed out knowing my leg was broken and my head was bleeding.

"Zayo!!!! Please!!!!" I cried out as the mutants jumped on me. I thought I was done for when my leg and head began to heat up and tingle. I wanted to cry at the torturous feeling but I was focused on the mutants.

Just then, two gun shots were heard and the two mutants fell limp. I groaned and pushed them off of me.

"See what happens when you try to act like a bad ass?" she said to me. I snorted and took her hand and got up. I walked to grab my gun when I slowed, wait, why was I walking? Quickly I reached around to the back of my head and felt around. oddly enough I couldn't even feel a bump!

Is that part of the injection? Can I regenerate?

"Let's go, we fired a lot of rounds. More will be close." Zayo called out . I grabbed my gun and turned around.

"Oof!" I called out as Zayo flung herself into my arms. I hadn't realized it before but she was crying.

"I thought...you...Kaison I was so alone!" she mumbled into my shoulder and I felt tears sting my eyes. She got out of the bunker before me, she was fending for herself for so long. "Zayo, I promise, I'm here and it's okay..." I mumbled to her and we stood there for a few minutes.

I hadn't realized how scared I was, how scared she must have been. Thinking everyone was gone and she was by herself.

I released her and she smiled at me before frowning in confusion, "Your eyes...They're..." her voice faltered and I looked down shaking my head.

"My father left me a journal, he said something about pollution..." I said feeling guilty for lying to her. I didn't want to but she'd be scared of me.

I just found her.

I wasn't gonna let her go that quickly. She shrugged and held my hand, smiling. "Let's go, you and me."

I nodded in agreement and we walked out of her old house and into the new would.

                    1 hour later
------------------------------------------------------

"So you've been asleep all this time?" Zayo asked trying to clarify from disbelief.

I nodded and asked her where we were going to change the subject.

I didn't tell her about all the injections or the powers I've seem to develop recently. I just told her my father had put me to sleep a few days after.

We had been walking for a good hour now, well out of our neighborhood but just reaching the city.

We needed a car, some type of transportation.

"We can find one with gas in the city." She explained jumping over rubble and landing next to me.

I smiled and chuckled, "show off!" I called up to her. She turned around to say something sarcastic but stopped dead in her tracks.

I smirked, "nothing smart to say?" I asked chuckling. She pointed behind me and ran taking my hand.

"RUN! GO!" she called out and I looked back to all the mutants from the past neighborhood.

Only thing that was different, was a man.

He was running in front of the rest, looked fairly old and highly intelligent. He was one of those few mutants that made me shiver with fear.

He was leading all of them towards their next meal.

Us.

We ran into the city and frantically attempted to open every car door.

I found a fairly new looking black truck and tugged on the door.

The sounds were getting louder and it wouldn't open. I tried the passenger side.

It opened.

"Zayo!!! Get in!" I called out scooting to the drivers side.

In a few minutes she ran in and slammed the door shut.

I was bent down shakingly trying to hot wire the truck. Something a friend of mine taught me.

"Uhhh Kaison no pressure but they're getting really close!" Zayo yelled looking back.

I turned and they were in the city now, destroying everything in their path to us.

"Shitshitshit..." I cursed under my breathe.

"Please, come on." I pleaded and finally got a spark. The engine purred as I stepped on the gas.

One had reached us but it wasn't enough and I slammed on the gas breaks.

The car jumped a little after rolling over the body but I just kept going.

I didn't stop till I saw the exit out of the city.

"We're getting out of here, California here we come!" I called out feeling a little hope.

That was until something smashed down on the back of the truck.

I looked back and low and behold, it was baldy.

"Well fuck." Zayo muttered and I began to shift it into gear.

This bitch wanted to eat, he was gonna have to work for it.

"Get ready for the ride of a lifetime baldy!" I screamed and smashed the gas peddle.
