July 11, 2009. They married. Lauren allowed me to be her maid of honor. Greg smiled at me as Lauren walked down the aisle. She looked so beautiful. I was happy for her; she deserved someone to love her. The night was long, and I knew that eventually Lauren would have to leave. I waited until Greg finally left her side to go talk to her. I hugged her and told her I was happy for her. She smiled and wrapped her arm around my shoulder. I held back the tears that ached to fall from my eyes. I watched them leave for their honeymoon once everyone had said their goodbyes. I hardly even noticed Greg watching me from his car.
Weeks went by and I had grown fond of my youth group. They were sweet to me when I wasn't. Alanna and I had written letters, but even those eventually ceased. I prayed every night that God would bring her back to me. I missed her tremendously, but the more I longed to see her, the more pain it brought me. Rosie reminded me of her a little bit. I suppose that was why I followed her around all the time. She became a best friend, and there was never a dull moment. But even Rosie couldn't make the pain go away.
Greg and I began to talk more once Lauren accepted it. My mother did not allow him to be alone in my room with me, but even that didn't stop him. We'd talk about my relationships with Rosie and Alanna almost all the time. He seemed very interested in the memories I had with them. He even gave me some helpful advice on how to talk to them without coming across as clingy. I had a bad habit of getting too close with people. Greg became intrigued as the days went by. I told him everything.
My church started an adult bible study every Tuesday, which interested me, knowing my friends would be there to babysit the little kids while playing around in the auditorium. I begged my parents to let me go, but I wasn't getting through. Greg had been listening to the conversation from the other room. "I'll take her?" My parents looked surprised. Lauren decided to come along. They agreed to take me and Cameron, but only to drop us off. The drive wasn't far, but long enough to get my nerves jangled. As we pulled up to the church parking lot, everyone was there with the addition of another vehicle. I had recognized it from somewhere, but couldn't pinpoint it. Out of nowhere it seemed, a girl walked out of the front doors. Cameron squinted in order to see her face from where we were. "It's Cana, Alanna's sister!" I quickly glanced over to him and in an instant, we both cheered as loud as we could. Lauren groaned and gave us our leave to go. My excitement had vanished in the split second that I got out of the car. Greg and Lauren drove off, leaving me and Cameron in the middle of the parking lot. I trembled, knowing Alanna was near. Cameron looked over at me and patted my back. "Come on, they're waiting for us." He ran to the front doors and greeted everyone inside. My heart rate was accelerating, my hands were shaking, and that little voice in my head was screaming. I made my way to the doors to greet Cana. She didn't seem so impressed to see me, but it didn't affect me too much. As I walked through the doors, I heard a muffled scream coming from my right. I peered over as Cana walked in behind me. I saw Rosie and Sarah hiding someone behind them, but I couldn't see who it was. Whoever it was had her back turned. Abby was in front of her, trying to calm her down. She encouraged her to look at me, and my heart dropped. Alanna turned in my direction and smiled. I felt like my whole world was spinning faster and faster; my prayers had finally been answered.
