"Emerald?"
She sighed and turned around. "Yes, Mercury?"Her teammate smiled. "You're happier today."
The mint-haired thief smirked back. "Lady Salem's finally sending us out on a real mission. How could I not be happy?"
Mercury laughed. "Oh, right, you get to use your illusions."
Emerald nodded. They both had proven themselves to Salem, and she trusted enough to let them infiltrate Team RNJR's ranks.
Mercury held out his hand. "After you, master thief."
She rolled her eyes, but took his hand and walked out.
Cinder and Tyrian were the only ones that came out to send them off, which Emerald didn't mind. She had grown close to Tyrian, and there was no question as to why Cinder was there.
Tyrian hugged her, something he didn't do often, and smiled. "Good luck. I hope you make them suffer."
Mercury smirked. "Oh, we will."
Cinder stepped forward and whispered in Emerald's ear at the loudest volume she could muster because of her injuries. "Be careful. Ruby Rose is not trusting, even of your disguises. I have faith in your abilities. Do not prove me wrong."
Emerald swallowed. She knew how great Cinder's wrath could be. "I won't. This will be easy compared to bringing down Beacon."
Tyrian clapped his hands maniacally. "Oh yes, and what a fine job that was! Your finest work!"
Emerald smiled at the assassin's eagerness. "Thank you, Tyrian. We'd better go."
Mercury laughed sarcastically. "Yeah, don't want Team RNJR to get away before we can join them!"
Cinder rolled her eyes, and Emerald raised her hand, teleporting both her and Mercury out of Salem's domain.
It had been so long since Emerald had looked at Mystral, and the light was a little disorienting. The little village that Team RNJR was in had been all lit up, lights hanging from every doorway.
Mercury squinted. "Which inn are they in again?"
Emerald punched him in the arm. "There's only one inn, moron."
He smirked. "I know. I just like messing with your head."
That was a jab too. Emerald rolled her eyes and waved her hand over herself, casting the illusion of a raven haired girl with blue eyes. She did the same to Mercury, casting the illusion of a brown haired boy with hazel eyes. He was so annoying sometimes, but he was her partner, and she had to stick around him.
Not that she complained all the time, she thought as they began walking towards the inn. Mercury could be nice when he wanted to.
He opened the door and swept his arm in that direction. "After you, Jade."
He used her fake name they had come up with, and she decided to play along. "Thank you, Robin."
Team RNJR wasn't hard to find. Nora was loud as always, and Ruby's bright red cape made her easy to spot in a crowd.
Emerald and Mercury walked up to their table and smiled. "Are you four Team JNPR?"
That got the reaction they wanted. All four of them winced, and Ruby spoke up first. "Um...no, we're Team RNJR."
Nora glared at the other girl. "How many times do I have to say JNRR?"
Ren put his hand on Nora's shoulder. "Nora, relax." He then turned to the pair. "What are your names?"
Emerald giggled, which sickened her, but it was the character she was playing. "I'm Jade, and this is Robin. We're from Haven."
Ruby smiled. "Cool! We're on our way to Haven right now!"
Jaune met Emerald's eyes, searching for something. "What team are you two part of?"
"Jade here is the leader of Team JSPR." Mercury gestured to his teammate. They weren't exactly lying, they were part of a team, just not an official one.
Team RNJR nodded, and Emerald detected slight trust in their eyes. They were in.
Hope you guys enjoy! Emerald and Mercury, aka Jade and Robin, are gonna be best friends with poor RNJR. Leave a comment if you enjoyed!
