His boot collided with Ren's chest as soon as Emerald and Tyrian disappeared. The ninja-like Hunter was sent flying backwards, and Mercury smirked, looking at all three of his opponents on the ground.

"You know, I'm technically about as experienced in battle as Jaune here. This must be embarrassing for you, especially you, Nora."

Ren and Jaune got to their feet, and Nora pulled herself to a sitting position, painfully so. Mercury laughed. "The most powerful member of your broken team, beaten so easily. What a shame, I was looking forward to beating you with a little bit of a challenge."

The Huntress rolled her eyes. "You're...taking credit for...your partner's fight."

He shrugged. "Maybe. I did help, but of course someone as slow as you wouldn't know."

A growl came from Ren, and Mercury's attention turned away from Nora just as her partner leapt at him. He rolled out of the way and met Ren's blade with his boot again.

"This is getting pretty repetitive, don't you think?" He smirked as Ren's expression didn't waver, and he spoke quietly and dangerously.

"Believe me, I'm humoring you." Mercury scoffed, and scanned over Ren's furious and cold look as his opponent continued. "You're stalling, waiting for your partner to come back so you have a chance."

Mercury fired, and Ren slid back a foot, his expression never for a second changing and his glare never wavering.

"Hmm, possibly. Why don't we test that?"

Ren didn't reply as he darted forward at lightning speed. Mercury blocked, sensing Jaune was no longer next to Nora.

Sure enough, after Ren's strike, a sword appeared at Mercury's neck, and he smirked as Jaune spoke up. "This doesn't have to go anywhere else, Mercury. If I have to use you to get Ruby back, I will."

Mercury's eyes widened, and his laugh was quieter. "Ooh, Mr. Arc has a dark side? I thought you weren't capable of that."

Ren stepped back as Jaune's sword drew closer to Mercury's neck. "Yeah, well. Some things your 'queen' did lately have brought it out."

Emerald's voice sounded in his head, sounding slightly worried. Merc, are you okay? I'm coming back, stall them.

Stall them?

I have a plan. Trust me and don't move.

Mercury chuckled quietly, and he felt the cold metal of Jaune's sword press into his neck. "What's so funny?"

"If I told you that, it would ruin the fun."

Jaune scoffed, pulling the sword away slightly. "What are you planning?"

Emerald spoke again. Get ready to move out of the way.

Got it. Mercury smirked. "That's the wrong tense. It's what we've planned, since we obviously can't plan anything now."

Now!

Mercury braced himself, and before Jaune could answer, a flash of green crossed his vision.

The sword at his neck clattered to the ground, and Emerald was standing there, hand pressed to the back of the Hunter's head.

Mercury rolled out of the way of Ren's attack, placing his boot in the center of the ninja-like Hunter's back as Emerald met his eyes.

Again, don't move.

Jaune stiffened, and Emerald tore her hand away from his head after a moment. He screamed, falling to the ground and clutching his head in pain.

Mercury's eyes widened as she crossed over to Ren. What was that?

She smirked. I sent him one of Ruby's memories. Now, it's going to be harder with Ren, I'll have to make something up.

He smirked back at her. Poor Jaune, never stood a chance. I think I know what you sent him.

Cinder didn't spare any time. It's almost sad.

Emerald's eyes narrowed in concentration, and soon Ren was on the ground as well. A gasp of pain came from both him and Nora, which Mercury found unnerving. It was almost like their pain was connected.

His partner sighed. "Well. Glad we got together again!"

"Hopefully we won't have to again." Mercury rolled his eyes, crossing over to Emerald's side and taking her hand.

Let's go before they decide to hijack our escape.

Emerald nodded, and Mercury felt the two of them cross over to Salem's domain. Before they completely arrived, however, he felt a hand wrap around his ankle and let go just before their feet hit the ground.

Ooh, who decided to hitch a ride? Was it two people? Was it all of them? Is there a certain couple moment coming up? Maaaaaybe c: See you Bookworms in the next chapter!
